| This speculative list of films for Cannes 2011 effectively demonstrates how much in the way of interesting cinema we have to look forward to next year.
MOD EGO EDIT - There is a link to the films here, just not showing. Click on 'speculative list'. Ambler. |

| Cronenberg and Von Trier. :)
Be interesting to see if Lynne Ramsay can bounce back. I loved Ratcatcher. |

| Hm, looks like there's no scheduled US release date for "Melancholia" yet.
I'm not sure if that's standard with his films or not. I can't say that I remember "Antichrist" be shown much around here. |

There's some spoof trailers on youtube. Judging by the comments, they seem to have taken in some of the more gullible viewers. |

| Most looking forward TREE OF LIFE and THE GRANDMASTERS in the first quarter. Can't saying I'm overblown by the former's trailer though.
ON THE ROAD, and THE DESCENDANTS also sound promising. Though I'm when it comes to Von Trier, Cronenberg, Mitulescu, McQueen, Almodovar, and Van Sant, I'll pass. |

| I'd be surprised if A Dangerous Method isn't there. It's probably my most anticipated film of the year, alongside Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I've just ordered the play - here's hoping that Hampton's in Dangerous Liasons form.
Oh, and Alps. Didn't notice that. Lanthinmos has earned my attention after Dogtooth - very curious to see how that pans out. |

Click on the words "speculative list." I was clicking on those words in red. Got it finally. :cyclops: I thought Tin Tin might have been in there but no. |

| Just take a look at this list, and then start the "cinema is dead" nonsense again. I dare you. |

| Certainly a more inspiring year than the last several. Wong, Téchiné, Sokurov, Malick, Spielberg, Payne, Salles, Kaurismak, Dumont, and the Dardenne brothers, pose as a very interesting line-up. |

Don't leave out Hirokazu Koreeda, Jia Zhangke, and Hou Hsiao-hsien, who make appearances on that speculative list. They're heavy-hitters too, every bit as significant as the names listed above. Other notable films not featured on the above list or mentioned yet: CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS, dir. Werner Herzog GOD OF CARNAGE, dir. Roman Polanski THE MILL AND THE CROSS, dir. Lech Majewski PINA, dir. Wim Wenders And I also have to say I'm interested, to a lesser extent, in TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY from Tomas Alfredson (I'm not crazy about LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, but I can see Alfredson's style lending itself very well to this material), LOOPER, and TWIXT NOW AND SUNRISE (maybe it won't be any good, but I'm always interested to see what the new, self-financing Coppola cooks up). Seriously. What. A. Year. |

I have a lot of time for Kore-eda. He's got a very engaging, affecting style, that I think puts him several notches above the others you mentioned - Zhangke and Hsiao-Hsien. Both of who I find very academic, arts-school. Removed from humanity, and rather pretentious. More in common with the likes of Almodóvar. But seriously, that's splitting hairs. I agree it's a hell of a year, along with your additions (especially Herzog. I also loved RESCUE DAWN). |

I really hope that's not just critic hype. Anyone heard of a release date for God Of Carnage (or, simply Carnage?) yet?

I heard somewhere that they'd locked down a 2012 release date, but I don't think post would take that long. I hope that Besson's The Lady pops up somewhere. It's his first "serious stuff" film in a while. |

No. It might not make it until 2012, but my guess is that they'll be able to film and release it pretty quickly. I read the play recently. It's an over-the-top farce, not particularly rich or thought-provoking, but crammed with opportunities for some great pratfalls and black comedy. I'll be interested to see how Polanski interprets it. |
