One of the hallmarks of a great band is that their B-sides are often just as good as or even better than their A-sides and album tracks.

"Bon Iver" -- Bon Iver
Not sure what it is about this album that has me so fascinated, but its sound is really something I've never heard before (I'm no real music enthusiast, however).

I dug out my copy too. RIP Davey Jones. These guys should be in the rock n' roll Hall of Fame. I'm serious.

they've always sounded good to my relatively tuneless ears. Not long ago I sought out some clips on YouTube and their stuff on stage last year was something, the energy that Jones and Dolenz had was something else. The TV series wasn't much kop but the band...well. A personal favourite, songwise, is Shades of Grey or What am I Doing Hangin' Round...and so on. Davy will be missed.

I do believe they belong in the rock n' roll Hall of Fame because of their lasting impact on the pop culture. Everyone knows the Monkees. Even the most notorious of punk bands, The Sex Pistols, covered the Monkees' Steppin Stone. They get that kind of respect. They've stood the test of time. Almost 50 years later, people are still very aware of the Monkees. Their biggest hits are timeless pop classics: Last Train to Clarkesville, Daydream Believer, I'm a Believer, Steppin Stone, and of course their signature, Hey Hey We're the Monkees.
The Hall of Fame board of course will dismiss them as a manufactured TV-show band, which they were, but they did play their own instruments and quite well at that. In the public consciousness they became much more than a TV-show band. They could have faded away and been forgotten but they didn't. Their "legend" has persisted for several decades, even though the band had only a two year whirl in the spotlight.
People just really like the Monkees and that's never going to change.
