I haven't seen the JURASSIC PARK movies in ten years, but I've always liked the theme from THE LOST WORLD.

THE LOST WORLD by far and away is Williams at his most badass. I love every second of it.
Shame so much of the score is unreleased.

They should do a fourth movie in the vein of ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES.

My favourite part of Rescuing Sarah is towards the end where they are indeed rescued themselves. Triumphant, sweeping...
Otherwise there's Visitor in San Diego when as Malcolm and Sarah are driving to the ampitheatre the Jurassic Park theme sounds, not only that but sounds urgent and dramatic.

I only own the score on cassette, but haven't owned a cassette player in years.
I think I'll wait until an expanded version is released before I get it on CD. Though, that could take years.

Crumbs, casettes. I've got my Dad's Empire Strikes Back one from 1980 but no, no casette player. Used to spend ages making my own tapes from various soundtrack albums. Good times. Lonely times.
I imagine an expanded Lost World OST will come out one day. Soon hopefully.

I had the cassette of the first JP.
I don't have any JP soundtracks now, though.
How much music is missing?

Not a lot from the first one. Fans of film score CDs say it's one of the very best there is, in terms of sequencing, not missing too much music, and playing well as a overall listening experience.
See here:

With THE LOST WORLD, it's another kettle of fish. The CD is 70 minutes long, but roughly 40 minutes of music heard in the film is unreleased, and there's a whole lot of other stuff that was written (as was discovered the sheet music leaked online), recorded, but never got into the film or CD.

Interview with Roger Feigelson of Intrada: http://www.underscores.fr/index.php/2012/07/interviews-intrada-to-disney-and-beyond/
This is particularly promising:
Quote :
You announced last year that you were working on Basil Poledouris’ most famous score, Conan The Barbarian, and its sequel, Conan The Destroyer. Can you tease us about those two upcoming releases?
The masters for Conan The Barbarian were long rumored to be lost. But the 24-track elements were neatly stored in Universal’s vault! I guess no one actually went looking for them. For Conan The Destroyer, people say Basil was not happy with the performance. Frankly, I grew up with this score and the performance never really struck me as that bad. It’s what I’m used to. And let’s be honest, performance isn’t everything. Back in high school, I was working at a Tower Records in the classical music department, and we used to play a lot of albums. My coworkers went crazy because I would always play this particular recording of Holst’s The Planets performed by a college orchestra. My colleagues asked «Why do you listen to that crappy performance of The Planets when there are professional recordings of it?» And I would respond, «I know there are mistakes, but these guys put so much passion in it, who cares about the mistakes?» (laughs). That’s it to me : the passion of the performance, not the perfection of the playing. Almost exact same thing happened when we were recording the skeleton fight at the end of the Jason And The Argonauts. Complicated piece, and Bruce Broughton who was conducting came back into the booth after numerous takes and said «We got it. But, while this last version is technically perfect, you can’t beat the enthusiasm of their playing from the first take.» So guess which version we put on the album? So does Conan The Destroyer have performance mistakes? Probably? Do I care? Not really. I think it’s a fun listen and frankly reflects the spirit of the film. For Conan The Barbarian, the master is done. It’s three CDs and it’s truly complete: it contains everything, including alternates and the original album program. It’s assembled from the 24-track masters, which have never been heard before. All previous album releases came from ¼” masters, and the movie is in mono. So there are details in the music that have never been heard before. At least not unless you were there live for the recording. For Conan The Destroyer, we have all the elements but we haven’t started putting them together yet.

Agree with a lot of that there. One of the things that Herrmann believed too. It's the conviction that matters in the end, more so than technical perfection.
A 24 track Conan would be brilliant. Just listen to how good the 20th Anniversary E.T. CD sounds.

I was watching THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, which I am loving. And with Herrmann's score it really takes off. Tragic that it took so long for him to start working with Hitch. Imagine how much better a film like THE PARADINE CASE or STAGE FRIGHT would have been with Bernie.

Maurice Jarre's RESURECCTION. Not one note of the original score's ever been released, except for a Silva Screen re-recoding of the end titles.
