The MGM executive is referring to how Die Another Day was the last time MGM released/distributed a Bond movie.
MGM and Annapurna formed their joint venture to release each other's movies in the United States. Initially, Bond 25 wasn't part of the deal but now it is.
Early Friday New York time, Eon put out its press release:

Am chuckling at the MGM guy choosing to bring up Die Another Day as part of this announcement.
Yeah what's that about?
Side note: He sure does look like James Bond in that main image:

Ah of course... I didn't realise MGM were co-distributing the film. That makes sense then.

I got WHY he was mentioning it, the article tells you that it was the last time MGM distributed a Bond. I just thought that reminding people of the, erm, decidedly mixed bag that was DAD was an ... interesting choice, lol.

Business wise it makes perfect sense to mention DAD as it was very good at the box office in addition to being the last sole MGM distributed title. Boyle is the safe choice for a director in this day and age but the film will likely be terrible drivel.
These two made THE BEACH you know...
...you know there are many more credible people to use...the IFF at times is more stringent on continuation authors than the film series is for screenwriters.

Oh heck, here's an easy fix: Directed by Ridley Scott, Screenplay by Raymond Benson. At least the resulting film would be entertaining, mostly intelligent and actually contain the Bond character.

AFAIK, IFF has nothing to do with the continuation novels. That's the purview of Ian Fleming Publications, formerly Glidrose.

Gotta love a rumour, but this doesn't actually sound too far removed from what Eon would actually do. It has everything: this time it's personal, copying from inspired by popular action films, misusing Fleming material, etc.

That story is almost a year old; 5 September 2017. And to be fair to Eon, it's recycling OHMSS and YOLT not Taken.

Yeah. It names Purvis and Wade as screenwriters, and we now know it's John Hodge.

So far I have zero interest. Craig is no longer Bond, he's just a whore in for the money.

I'm pretty sure James Bond will be required to be celibate from here on in.

Not so. There will be regular 'shower sessions' after Bond's gaoled for 50 years of serial heterosexuality. What a twisted man he is.

So we can take this as confirmation that we can kiss any Shatterhand/Garden of Death adaptation goodbye. What a missed opportunity.

Yeah, but it might end with all the actors doing a Bollywood dance number.

I wouldn't trust EON with it now. Given what they did in SPRECTUM, I'm guessing the Garden of Death would be within the grounds of a refurbished Skyfall Lodge where Brother Blofeld now lives because he wants to eat where Little James used to eat, sleep where Little James used to sleep, poop where Little James used to poop.
