Little things you notice Empty
PostSubject: Little things you notice   Little things you notice EmptyTue May 14, 2019 5:12 pm

I’m sure that we all notice little things in the Bond movies and wonder if anyone else saw it too, or interpreted something the same way.  I’ll add more as they come to me, but here’s what I’m thinking about right now:

In the last scene of Casino Royale, when Mr. White answers the phone and is walking toward the camera, but before Bond shoots him, the wind is blowing into his face pretty strongly, and it pulls the fabric of his pants tight against the front of his legs.  To me, it looks like the outlines of knee pads for his pending fall.  Anyone else see that?

I recently rewatched Goldeneye for the first time in a couple of decades. I thought Joe Don Baker was Fred Thompson.  Am I alone on this?

At the end of QOS, when Bond lets Corrine leave the apartment, she quietly says “thank you” as she goes through the door.  I always wonder if that was a bit of fun, with the Canadian being unerringly polite.  If she had said “sorry”, I’d be convinced.

Comments?  Other observations?

The little things are what make Bond films so great on rewatches.

A lot of fans have commented on Mr White's kneepads, but I can't see them.

The first time you've rewatched GE in a couple of decades? So, since its release? How was it, watching it again?

No I think Corrine thanks Bond for ensuring she doesn't ensnared in a web.

A couple from me:

I really like Bond and Wai Lin side by side with the former in a blue shirt and the latter in a red one. Visually demonstrates a patriotism for their respective countries, in my opinion.

Bond's entrance to M's office in DN, where he takes a moment to suss out his superior's mood. Similarly, his offering of his lighter to M. Says so much about their dynamic and all in the first film.

I remember renting Goldeneye in 1996. When I rewatched it recently, it was through a way different lens than before. It was better than I remembered, and one of the better Bond films. I thinks it's Brosnan's best, and I have it on my "essential" list. Interestingly, I didn't really care for Xenia.

Glad you enjoyed GE. It's one of the best, in my opinion. Would be great to see your ranking of the films. Feel free to post it here, if you like: https://bondandbeyond.forumotion.com/t33p525-rank-all-the-bond-films

What is it about Xenia that you don't like?

How many times would you say you've seen the other Bond films? And are the gaps between rewatches just as big as Goldeneye's?

On Mr White's kneepads ... is it possible that they're also something to do with the bullet-impact effect?

I just didn’t really care for Xenia’s gimmick. She was a cool character but I was indifferent.  Many people have her as a "best", and that is fair, because not everyone is going to agree with my choices.

As for my history with the movies.  I’ve always enjoyed Bond movies since I was a kid.  They were quite present and influential amongst my friends and myself.  I’ve always been fairly familiar with them.  I saw a few Roger Moore movies in the theatre when I was a kid, and always watched whenever they came on T.V. Television was my primary exposure.  I lost some interest during the Dalton and Brosnan years, but was reinvigorated by Craig and CR.  That spurred me to become more proactive in my interest, and in the last couple of years I have been delving deeper into the Bond universe.  After I first posted, I remembered that a couple of years ago, I took a free one-month trial membership with a streaming service because they had the entire James Bond series through the Brosnan movies, so I have a baseline of seeing the entire series at latest two years ago.  However, since last fall, I have really immersed myself in Bond.  I have watched the entire series, with most movies multiple times, sometimes within days of the last watching.  Off the cuff, I’d say all of Connery’s 8-10 times each, OHMSS 3 or 4 times, most of Moores in the 2-3 range, with some around 4-6, LTK twice, the first three Brosnan movies once each, CR, QOS, SF 4-6 each, and even Spectre 3 or 4 times, always hoping that maybe, somehow, it will be better this time.  Sigh.  This is just since last fall.  I’d seen most of the movies many times before.  Admittedly, I need to go back to TLD.  I have very little interest in rewatching VTAK but most likely will, just because of the clamour over how great Walken is, and I will probably never rewatch DAD.

I addition, I’ve also been using forums, watching documentaries, reading articles, and digesting tons of online content.  There are several youtube channels that I have watched repeatedly. I really enjoy the reviews and thoughts on the movies.  While I don’t always agree, I particularly enjoy Dutch Bond Fan, Calvin Bond Reviewer, Haphazard Stuff, the Spectre podcast, and some Chris Stuckman.

Fair enough. I'd probably have Xenia in my top 3 henchmen, probably behind May Day and Red Grant.

Nice little summary there, You don't know me. Good to have you around. I'm sure there are a few members here who will appreciate another Craig supporter. If you catch a few of my posts defending DAD I hope that might encourage watching it in a new light. smile

And Spectre will never get better. tongue

Good suggestions regarding Calvin, Dutch Bond Fan and Haphazard Stuff (though I mostly disagree with his... stuff). There are threads about the place related to their vids in the Fan section IIRC.

Nice avatar by the way.

That was a thought, but I think I see it on both knees. My DVD player is acting up, so I haven't been able to scrutinize the scene recently.
