Overall, I don't find it "silly" that citizens question where a President was born. We have the right to know, last I checked (although, each day, it seems like that ideas expressed in the Constitution are going right out the window).

This is stupid. And anyone who thinks this nonsense will now go away is crazy. Aren't there more important issues to focus on - where the Obama administration has undeniably, massively failed - than to devote this much attention to something that was obviously silly from the get-go?

Pretty slick forgeries, but I'd expect no less from the most powerful Muslim man on the planet.

Caving to Trump's pressure just gives him credence. Utterly stupid political move from a supposed professional politician, whether he has the press in his wing or not. What's in the material is irrelevant, Trump can get up and say "I got him to release the birth certificate. I got him to stop hiding things from the American people" or such shit.

And I see he's made a demand for his education records now.

I think Trump's cleverer than his half-assed reality show performances indicate. You can look at his bankruptcies and failed ventures (Trump Ice, the casino business) and forget he's an incredibly shrewd businessman. The Trump Soho project? Didn't involve a dime of his own money. Whether it suceeds or fails, he's completely eliminated risk from the equation. That's good business. His children are incredibly impressive, which says something for the man regardless of his gaudy media appearances.

I don't necessarily support him. But I think as a political opponent he's potentially being underestimated.

I also think the way the US media treats Trump as a novelty instead of scrutinising him properly and fairly (the only person I've seen do this is - shockingly - Bill O'Reilly) could backfire. It's certainly making me more inclined to like him and I'm not exactly predisposed to the "Leftist Media!" attitude.

It's just a stupid situation overall. Birthers are retarded, Trump shouldn't be a legitimate candidate and Obama shouldn't have caved.

Why is Trump not a legitimate candidate? He's far more qualified than say Palin imho.

I think Obama's the stupid one here, as he should have just made his birth certificate public to begin with; and not that fake-looking, Photoshopped piece of shit the administration released a couple years back. I'm not too familiar with this issue, but what made people think Obama could've been born anywhere other than in Hawaii. And where did they think he was born in - Mecca? Medina? Moscow? North Korea? Some cave in Afghanistan?

Indeed - they never questioned any white candidate, or any without "Hussein" as a middle name. I'm inclined to agree with Obama that the whole thing is a stupid sideshow - if these people werent so lazy they could divert their energies into some good criticism of his policies, which would undermine his Presidency a lot more than this circus.

I don't think it has to do with race or religion, despite how the left seem to spin the issue.

Plenty of seemingly-inconsistent facts were brought up about Obama, his upbringing, and, overall, his citizenship after he had entered office. Not every American has to conform, nod their head, and accept everything that the government offers to them. If something even seems out of place, the people have the right to ask about it. After all, we pay these people, and we elect these people. The original birth certificate that the administration released didn't really answer any questions, either. On top of that, it looked like it was made by a 17-year-old multimedia student, which only made the American people question his citizenship more.

Would you agree that its a stupid waste of resources? That such a massive group of people who, more than halfway into Obama's term, are still focussing on his birthplace? But fo these people really think that nobody had ever encountered this point before? Obama didnt just come from nowhere - he had already won public office in '04, and rose through a massive political machine to become the Demorcatic Party Presidential candidate. Even just in-house, a nationwide in-house, surely it was raised before? And common sense would dictate that surely the Democratic party, would not be so absent minded as to endorse an illegal candidate for the Presidency. Or even worse, that after more than 150 years of service to the American people and some great American presidents along the way, would suddenly become enthralled in a Muslim conspiracy led by a "terrorist". A whole nationwide political party involved in a massive conspiracy? Yeah thats a picture of only the extreme right-wingers, but thats a lot of bottom-of-the-barrel stuff too. The Oprah thing is symptomatic of all politicians these days who increasingly doing lame TV spots to boost their audience and appeal - and he's picked Oprah, which is not doubt vote-getting, but agrreably lame. And the Coorespondent's Dinner... its a tradition, and personally I like seeing the President and everyone cut loose a tad.

But on the flipside also, they're barely a diversionary politcal movement - playing on the ideas of guys like this:
