Jeremy Renner is the new Jason Bourne Jeremy-Renner-7_20110422004317-193x300

BREAKING: The search is over. Universal Pictures has formally offered Jeremy Renner the lead role in the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy. Renner, who has been nominated for Oscars the past two years for his work in The Hurt Locker and The Town, is expected to sign on quickly to play a new character in the spinoff film that begins production in September. Like the Jason Bourne character played by Matt Damon in the first three The Bourne Identity thrillers, Renner will play an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.

Renner was one of the names rumored as the studio went through two cycles of tests over eight weeks to find the right guy. That decision was made today. Even though Renner plays an operative in the upcoming Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol, the studio felt clearly that he was in a position similar to where Damon was when his career took off with Bourne. Renner is not a kid, but he is really hitting his stride and poised to become a big star after numerous strong performances.

The studio looked closely at a number of up and coming stars, and tested the likes of Joel Edgerton (The Thing), Dominic Cooper (The Devil's Double), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) and Luke Evans (The Amateur American). Other names in the mix included Taylor Kitsch and Anthony Mackie.

I think MBalje, the Craig look is what they were going for here.

If there is one thing to worried about it be Kathryn Bigelow directed a Bourne movie earlier then Bond can take her. Her K-19: The Widowmaker mabey be a example for a Bond movie in Ge/TSWLM style, The Hurt Locker can be a reasen to take her for Bourne. I haven't seen both movies, i based this on the trailers. I buy that K19 movie last year in the first place to see or she is something for Bond. From earlier experience we know we the audince don't accept it if a directer trade another franchise in specialy Bond see Tamahori and Triple X Next Level.

But iam intrest, in specialy if there make some inprovements:

- One extra action scene
- Some humor.
- One extra dialogue scene. Find a middle way. From the last one there be to easy, with the second one to dificult.
- Working a litle bit more on full story. The second movie be better in this.
- 5-10 minutes longer. Credits after for the second movie starts after 1h38minutes and with number 3 after 1h41 minutes. Make it 1h48 minutes. Include credits that mean 1h.57minutes. This is Pall/R2/DVD Time.

Keep up the good work with the contunetie with The Bourne Identity, locations, music and sound & cinematopgraphy.

A actres i also have in mind who i like to see in a new Bournre movie: Jennifer Lothrop (Fantastic Four) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1293475/

That would be our first victory over the Bourne franchise.

We did it first back in 2005.

Ok, I'll be the odd bitch out and say I'm curious to see it.

Simple reason...Bond needs good competition from at least one other spy franchise. The three previous Bourne movies did have some good moments in them.

It's more like Bourne needs good competition from at least one other spy franchise, too bad Bond keeps on failing them.

Of course they had, they made the fortune of CR and QOS.

Don't be surprised Seve. Every even remotely interesting series has to be milked dry until it turns into a barely recognizable shadow of its former self.

And when Damon's career grinds to a halt the 'real Bourne' will be back. As Cat says, we must learn from history.

A profound thought.

Joan Allen, Albert Finney are 'Bourne' again
Thesps will reprise roles, provide continuity to 'Bourne Legacy'
By Justin Kroll

Jeremy Renner is the new Jason Bourne Allen_joan_newJeremy Renner is the new Jason Bourne Finney_albert_new

EXCLUSIVE: Though the "Bourne" franchise is moving on without Matt Damon, some familiar faces are expected to return to preserve some narrative continuity, with Joan Allen and Albert Finney in negotiations to reprise their roles in "The Bourne Legacy."

Tony Gilroy is directing from a script he penned about another assasin -- not Jason Bourne -- who trained in the same program, to be played by Jeremy Renner. Other newcomers inlcude Rachel Weisz and Oscar Isaaks, with Edward Norton in talks to play a villain, as Variety first reported July 12.

Allen first appeared in "The Bourne Supremacy" as Pam Landry, a CIA agent trying to capture Bourne; she reappered in the third chapter, "The Bourne Ultimatum." Finney also appeared in a small role in "Ultimatum" as a doctor overseeing the assassin training project.

Frank Marshall, Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are producing. Allen is repped by ICM and Finney is repped by Simkins Partnership.

I know I'm in a minority, but I have a very good feeling about THE BOURNE LEGACY.

I'm a huge fan of all three Bournes to date, but I think the franchise needs some shaking up at this point. Something a little different, and not just another Damon & Greengrass handheld camera actionfest (enjoyable though such a thing would doubtless be). And that's certainly what LEGACY promises to be - a film set within the Bourne universe but without Jason Bourne.

Tony Gilroy has co-written all the previous Bournes, and much as I enjoyed THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM I read one of his early drafts and it seems to me that it was rather "watered down" by Greengrass and co., with characterisation and intrigue sacrified for more action. It struck me as darker and meatier than what we ended up seeing onscreen.

Gilroy is the Richard Maibaum of the Bourne series - the behind-the-scenes veteran who knows all the rules of the character and makes it work. As a Bourne fan, I have great faith in him. I can't wait to see what he's got up his sleeve with his movie.

Also, the cast is terrific: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach (no Julia Stiles yet?).... It's one heck of a lineup. Not that good cast automatically equals good movie, but it doesn't usually hurt.

Oh, and looking at the IMDb it appears that the cinematographer is none other than Robert Elswit (TOMORROW NEVER DIES, THERE WILL BE BLOOD and the upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL), which is another promising sign.

I may be wrong, but I reckon THE BOURNE LEGACY could be the ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE of the Bourne franchise, with a new lead, a new director and a new direction resulting in arguably the best film of the whole bunch.

This isn't the only franchise attempting this sort of thing. We have PROMETHEUS, which at least claims to be this on the tin (though it also plays into the "prequel" trend), and it looks like a similar approach will be followed with BLADE RUNNER 2.

True, but I can't think of any other A-list action franchise that has attempted, after three entries, to continue sans its hero (I'm not counting SPEED 2 or xXx 2, since neither could really be described as an A-list action franchise). We didn't have LETHAL WEAPON 4 without Riggs and Murtaugh, and Lucy McClane didn't headline LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD. And, of course, there hasn't yet been a Bond film without Bond (although it came close, in the shape of the aborted Jinx movie). So what's happening with THE BOURNE LEGACY does strike me as something fairly new and bold, and therefore interesting.

Wasn't the second Ludlum Bourne about an impostor, some other guy who claimed to be Bourne, for a couple of Kuomintang chaps? Come to think of it, Bourne IS a codename, unlike Bond, so the Renner flick could get away with it. If the audience is willing to follow that reasoning.
