Fred Williard Arrested for "Lewd Act"

This story didn't get much traction in the General News/Crime and Punishment thread, so we'll try it here:

This is what I want to know: how is what he allegedly did in the theater any more obscene than what was being shown in the movie? As long as it was on the screen it was considered artistic and had merit, but the moment someone does the same thing in the audience it suddenly becomes depraved and filthy? Why, oh why, would someone go to a XXX porno theater to do anything but what Fred Willard did? Did Fred's jacking off distract the other 3 people in the theater from watching the 6 person hard-hat gang bang being featured in the film? I wish I could get the police to come in and arrest loud talkers, people texting or using their phones, or loud people who think they must yell at the screen, as if the hero could hear what they were saying and adjust his conduct accordingly.

Yes at least theatre wankers aren't as distracting as loud talkers or cell-phone users. The latter are far more evil. And sticky floors? Movie theatres have always had sticky floors.

Well, from what I've read, the vice-squad was doing a routine check of activity in the theater and came upon (no pun intended) Willard committing the lewd act. :roll: And yet a lewd act was taking place up on the screen. How many different orifices did that chick in the movie probably have a penis in? Was anyone else in the theater (and I read there was only 3 other people) offended? No one called the cops. I just think it is a huge waste of tax payer money to have cops patrolling a XXX-porno theater.

Maybe if Willard had had someone on his staff he wouldn't have felt the need to go to a XXX porno theater.

But seriously, I don't "get" XXX porno theaters. Who sits down and actually watches a porno for plot, dialogue, cinematography, set and costume design, musical score, etc...? Isn't the entire purpose of XXX porn to get a person sexually aroused? Wasn't Willard's behavior simply a natural extension of what porn is all about? Were there any patrons in the place who were truly offended by what he was doing in the aisles but not what was occurring on screen?

If there were, Fred Willard would have said there was more to the story. He didn't. Sounds like the vice patrol was doing a regular "sweep" of these adult entertainment venues and caught someone breaking the law, though I think it's a ridiculous law. If anybody has paid good money to go in and see a XXX film, there cannot possibly be anything going on in the aisles or seats that is any worse than what is occurring on screen. The ones here closed down 20 years ago when adult movies on VHS took over the home video market.

They still have adult video stores here with coin arcade which I don't see the point of it when you can just rent the movie and watch it in the privacy of your own home;

or go on the internet: plenty of free adult video websites on the internet.

#1 That information would have been included in the police report. It wasn't.

#2 The movie showing was a straight porn movie. If Willard was looking for action with men he would've gone to a place that would have assured him of finding like-minded men; The Tiki Theater wasn't one of them.

#3 He HAS said something. WIllard went on Jimmy Fallon's talk show a few days after the arrest and laughed about it, and responded to the charges.

#4 If another guy had been involved then why wasn't the other guy charged? Willard was arrested for a "lewd act" i.e. masturbating, not oral, anal, or manual sex with any other individual.

And he hasn't even been charged. The prosecutor has said Willard won't be charged if he completes a "$380 diversionary program". Essentially, it's sanctioned blackmail. He's got the money; he should fight this at trial. I wouldn't convict him of a lewd act. How is what he did any more or less lewd than what was taking place on the screen?

Face it: there's no conspiracy here. Nothing in the reports to suggest there was a.....2nd shooter.
