RIP, Mr. Robertson. Younger audiences will know him as Spiderman's uncle but I'll probably remember him most for "Obsession" and for playing JFK in "PT 109".

633 Squadron was a film I knew him for, for ages until recently.

RIP.

My heart sank when I saw this. True shame. 😢

Outstanding actor. My favorite, actually. I was lucky enough to receive his autograph last November, in which he generously included an extra personal, signed photo.

I'm very sad about this news, to be frank.

I'd forgotten about that. Remember the episode where he and Calamity Jan(his then wife Dina Merrill) played to rob the train with all the old cash in it?

Yep sure do. Batman is my all-time favourite TV series. Nothing will ever top it. Too bad DC and ABC, or whoever, can't get together and put this iconic camp masterpiece out on dvd and blu-ray.

Shameful.
Even though I've turned into a commited "Lostie", Lost will only ever be my favourite series of the modern era.

Cliff was deadly as Shame. An honored member of the pantheon of Bat-villains.

The funniest part was that poor kid he let down. "Shame, where are you, come back" or something to that effect laugh

My bat memory senses are off, as I only have access to the show on You-tube. If someone would be kind enough to put the series out on discs, I think I might watch it as often as I do Bond.

"Shame, come back Shame!" not just any kid but that one from Poseidon Adventure.

Was on British telly not long ago but alas I don't have the scene to hand on disc or anything. If I recall Batman stops Shame's cattle from charging him by taking his cape off and doing the whole matador-at-Draco's routine.

TCM has adjusted their September schedule for a Cliff Robertson tribute on 9/19:

I loved Cliff Robertson though he rarely got the roles he deserved. Along with Lee Marvin, Richard Widmark and Cary Grant he was my idea of a leading man. (Can't stand today's gay/female-friendly feminized little boys. Ryan Gosling = progress.)

Still, I'm confident that Obsession will one day be recognised as a classic film, and that Robertson will receive the recognition he deserved, albeit posthumously.

Have you seen Drive then Ambler? (I assume that's what yielded your mention of Gosling)

I really want to see it, but it doesn't seem to have a release date over here yet.

No, I haven't seen Gosling in anything. My moan was occasioned more by his boyish good looks than anything.

I will go and see Drive though, if only for the soundtrack.

I don't find Gosling particularly attractive.
The only performance of his I have truly enjoyed so far was in "Lars and the real girl", in which he plays the opposite of an alpha male. It's hard to imagine him as an action star based on that performance.

Yeah. Unfortunately, it might be after De Palma's gone, as well.
