Ooooh.... I can go on and on about their strange English words!! The Brits spoke English and the native inhabitants from the America's spoke their lingo untill they got invaded by a variety of folks speaking a variety of languages. So why do you call a Loo a bathroom /restroom? And what silly nonsense is that calling a flat an appartment? William Shakespear would cartwheel in his gave if he heard those bumpkins in the colonies raping his language. :*e*: |

he would? ha! that's hard to believe - coming from the person who claimed he wrote all those plays and poems and books when he didn't! |

Ooooh.... I can go on and on about their strange English words!! Or call television the "telly"? Or a mass transit system "the tube"? Why can't they just call it a subway like everyone else? Or an elevator a "lift"? Or a cell phone a "mobile"? Why are "bloody" and "sod off" consider vulgarities? Why can't they just call a jacket a jacket (or a windbreaker) instead of a "kagoul"? Why is getting drunk called getting "pissed" over in England? If I said I was getting pissed here in the U.S., it would mean either I was angry or I was being urinated on. They also drive on the wrong side of the road. |

| A kagool is very different to a jacket.
And we don't drive on the wrong side of the road. The French do. |

They also drive on the wrong side of the road. I don't understand why you find that strange ... and I'm not even British (actually technically I am but whatever). It makes sense. 'Telly' especially - its just shortening the word. And a mobile should always be called a mobile. :D |

Those three things usually correlate for me, so it's a very convenient term. |

It's a happy accident. |

| There is no yeast in a Yorkshire pudding and they are nothing like the cobs you pictured.
Yorkshire puddings originated in Yorkshire England, that's the same country as the language you are (ab)using btw.
That last picture looks like a dessert to me...not one that comes with Arabs mind. |

| and this is another British invention I don't comprehend. there are so many more palatable things to compliment your afternoon tea (or here in the US, your afternoon Coffee): cookies (you folks call them biscuits) or cakes. why cukes? also who decided to use cukes? why not zucchinis or squashes? |

Yet its us who "really don't speak English that well." More terms I don't understand: A "fag" is a cigarette in the U.K., but in the U.S. it normally means a homosexual (or someone who is ridiculous) Why can't the Brits just use the term "cigarette" like the rest of us? Don't they know how homophobic and insensitive they sound? Also, why use the term "wanker" or "tosser" when there are perfectly good substitutes such as idiot, stupid, moron, etc...? I don't get "He's having a wank". Why not use "jerk", "jack", or "flogging"? Over in the U.K. their black people are called "African-Britons". Why aren't they referred to as African-Americans like they are over here in America? But don't get me wrong. I still like the Aussies and the Brits. I harbor no prejudice against either of them. However, don't get me started on the Canadians. |
