It's not just you. I think that's what the plonkers who complained to EON thought too. I can understand where that comes from, but GOLDENEYE isn't a greatest hits, "Bond is back" kind of Bond film. That's TOMORROW NEVER DIES..
Even David Arnold likes the score.

How lovely to be lumped in with 'plonkers', cheers for that.

Yeah... Prisoner Monkeys grouped me with the "idiots" at one of the other Bond forums. ;)

OK Sharkus Malarkus, it can be tricky to judge tone on ye olde interweb. Affectionate intent welcomed, sir :) .
The score may not be altogether to my taste, but I will say GE is a bloody good Bond flick ... the weight of expectation on the movie's shoulders after the 6-year hiatus is a heavy one, but it manages admirably. Due in no small part to the Brozzer's debut performance, if I may be so bold - he's brilliant. The action, the lighter moments, the 'deeper' character stuff - they're all good. Very, very good in fact.
Actually, we're apparently due a wet Bank Holiday Monday tomorrow ... I could do worse than stick Goldeneye on :) .

If anyone here wants to hear a hardcore Newman action cue, I suggest downloading "The Bad Death Of Eduard Delacroix" on ITunes from THE GREEN MILE. Guy's got the chops.

Ryuichi Sakamoto would make for a spectacular Bond composer.

I'd like the chap who did Tinker to do one or maybe just cobble some CD together. Sort of a Bond answer to Shadows of the Empire OST.

I can't be the only person who is curious as to why j7 thinks Newman is a sell-out. There is nothing in that brief interview that suggests he is. Sure, we all know that I think very little of j7, but I'm ignoring the fact that it is j7 asking this question. If it had been Sharky or Hilly or PK or anyone else accusing Newman of selling out for no reason as far as I can see, I'd still be asking why they felt that way.

Maybe j7 remembers Newman's now forgotten stint as a punk rock guitarist, and believes he went commercial by choosing to score films, like his father, Alfred Newman, brother David Newman, uncles Lionel Newman and Emil Newman, and cousin Randy Newman. Or he's just a complete fucking wanker.

Possibly the most famous piece of movie music from the Newman clan (Alfred Newman) in its original form:
