Three die amid panic as cruise ship wrecked in Italy

is it a photographic trick or is that ship just a few feet from the protruded rock?

jump off the ship and swim to it, why even bother getting into an overcrowded lifeboat full of panicking people?

What a surreal sight! The cruise ship is about as big as that village next to where it sunk. Indeed, it's not a far distance to swim to shore. Nonetheless, poor passengers!

my friend says the ship capsized further out and overnight, the waves pushed it closer to shore where it came to its final position in the photographs

it couldn't go any further in because the rocks underwater nearer the mainland were keeping the ship from going further

A bit of a daft reaction towards an accident where 5 folks are death and 15 still missing (so far). :roll:

But I undoubtely miss a sense of sarcasm and fail to see any humour in this situation.

Of course. Apologies to the families of the victims who I'm sure have read this thread.

It is a sad and bizarre tradegy in this day and age of checks safety precautions and automatics warnings that it was supposedly an hour before any emergency action was taken. Having said that looking at the way the ship Beached itself and unless it rolled fully, you wonder if staying on board was such a crazy idea.

the authorities are searching the interior of the ship for survivors and some of the passengers still listed as missing.

how do you get around in it when it's sitting on its side and some of the interior is now underwater?

I imagine if you're trapped in a capsized ship you try to get out no matter what.

Hence the 'try' part. I say this, what with my water phobia and everything else I'd imagine I'd go mad trying to get out of a submerged corridor and try to wait for help. Make some peace with somebody otherwise and wait for the end. Clearly, it's not easy to get out but in these situations of life threatening circumstances most would try to find a way out no matter what...until such obstacles overwhelm.

I think most folks on these cruises are somewhat older which probably makes their escape physical more difficult I would guess.
What I found most worrysome is that the number of missing has gone up again from 15 to 29 (25 passengers & 4 crew).
What a horrible way to end your life.

Five more bodies found in the ship, indeed aged between 50 and 60 wearing lifejackets. Seems the rescuers blasted holes in the side to get to some parts. Leaves 24 missing.

Communications between the captain and harbour master are interesting, well fairly dramatic as they're translated.

a lawsuit for a bigger monetary settlement will take years to complete and then most likely, get tied up in Appeal courts with most of of the awards money ending up going to the Attorneys

plus some of those passengers are real old, they may not live long enough to see the case settle in court if they decided to sue

that's $14,450 PLUS the full costs of their cruise, and any travel expenses and medical expenses sustained after the grounding
