WINTER'S BONER wasn't horrible. I agree with Tux about the direction and technical quality, though--not that outstanding. Jennifer Lawrence was great, and she is hot.

TRUE GRIT is a fine meat-and-potatoes film, but it doesn't cut too deep.

Great to some love for SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON. Byran Forbes is one of the most neglected film makers around. Lovely bloke too. He's even got his own Youtube channel, and has uploaded his films.

The problem, as Harmsway's post should neatly demonstrate, is that the Academy is terribly biased against foreign language films. Italian and French cinema in the early 60s was vastly more innovative and vibrant than American produce.

Good to see some Forbes recognition. I think it was Tuesday he was going to attend a showing of Whistle Down the Wind at BFI Southbank but said he was too unwell to attend and recieve the BFI Fellowship. His screenplays are quite good such as League of Gentlemen and even I Was Monty's Double.

To be fair some of those films did win Foreign Language Oscars however I agree that the Academy have never been a great barometer of success.

I guess the heavy campaigning by the likes of Harvey Weinstein and this whole "Oscar season" crap that gets played out every is quite tiresome.

Watched Tintin this afternoon. I'm gonna bet that it's better than any of the films that got nominated for best animated feature.

well, the OSCARS are this weekend and The Artists is heavily favorite to win.

Heck, they are even taking bets in Las Vegas on the OSCARS!

it starts at 4pm Pacific time this year and runs through past 10 pm Central Time.

I'm actually afraid I may have to miss the Oscars this year. I'm in a show that's gonna be having a tech rehearsal Sunday, and they may have it be from 5-11PM. No one else seems to give a shit that it's the Oscars, and someone suggested that I just record it. C'mon, that's like watching a recorded sports game. It's not fun unless it's live.

I hope I'll be here. I've got two fucking lines in this show. It's a series of one-act plays and musicals about zombies. It's F***IN' stupid, but it's something to do at least.

I don't want to miss the Oscars for a show where I do pretty much nothing. Especially since it's supposed to be a comedy and I'm the funniest one in the cast if let loose to be so. Of course, they like over-the-top instead of deadpan. Story of my life.
