| Thought I'd open this up with an article from the Washington Times: http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/apr/30/new-obama-slogan-has-long-ties-marxism-socialism/ - Quote :
- The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."
"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.
The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.
The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word "Forward" with the "O" having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign's official beginning.
There have been at least two radical-left publications named "Vorwaerts" (the German word for "Forward"). One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky. It still publishes as the organ of Germany's SDP, though that party has changed considerably since World War II. Another was the 1844 biweekly reader of the Communist League. Karl Marx, Engels and Mikhail Bakunin are among the names associated with that publication.
East Germany named its Army soccer club ASK Vorwaerts Berlin (later FC Vorwaerts Frankfort).
Vladimir Lenin founded the publication "Vpered" (the Russian word for "forward") in 1905. Soviet propaganda film-maker Dziga Vertov made a documentary whose title is sometimes translated as "Forward, Soviet" (though also and more literally as "Stride, Soviet").
Conservative critics of the Obama administration have noted numerous ties to radicalism and socialists throughout Mr. Obama's history, from his first political campaign being launched from the living room of two former Weather Underground members, to appointing as green jobs czar Van Jones, a self-described communist. Did someone forget to do their homework? Does the administration just not care? Or is this intentional? |

| Interesting link, seeing as our (ex-Communist) prime minister used the slogan "Moving Forward" at the last election.
Though I'm sure when smooth-talkin' Barack says the line it won't sound like a goat having its larynx torn out. |

They intentionally do not care. They'll deny it in order to give themselves political cover, but at the same time it's a sly wink and a nod to fellow Socialists to let them know that Obama really, truly is one of them and that he hears them, he cares for them, and he's one of them. |

| Maybe this slogan is simply a tactic to provoke the right-wingers enough to really lose their shit, which at the same time has the people realize what a bunch of loonies the Republicans are, thus Obama gets more votes simply by default. |

Well, I"m not a Republican, or a "right-winger", but I believe the "Forward" slogan conveys multiple messages to all kinds of different groups. They know what they're doing. And, quite honestly, I believe Obama is a Muslim-sympathizer, and a president that has heavy leanings toward socialism. There's an old line in politics I believe has become basically true over the past 25 years in America: the Democrats became Socialist, and the Republicans became Democrats. Too bad an independent candidate with clout, credibility, real name recognition, and some respect, didn't mount a third party presidential run. Just imagine if there were someone out there with Perot's money, but not his crazy antics, that made a serious challenge to President Obama? This guy is totally beatable, but every-time I look around it seems as the Republicans snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. |

I think that's giving Obama way too much credit. I've never bought the whole "Obama is a closet Socialist/Muslim/space invader" conspiracy line of thought precisely because the man seems incapable of handling his day job. Having a second, covert job as well would be completely beyond him. His biggest concern in life appears to be playing basketball with his favorite male staffers and travelling around the world at taxpayers' expense. This is the same man who was running against the Republicans in 2008 as the economy tanked in a way that it had not since 1929, and the best he could manage was 53% of the vote. This is a man who doesn't submit proposals or nominations to Congress, and then lambasts Congress for not acting on his proposals! :x He never submitted his own proposals for health care reform. He simply told Congress to get on with it and went out to play some basketball, and the result was that even if you are a strong advocate of health care reform in the USA, it's almost impossible to defend Obamacare because of what a poorly written mess the final bill was. So no, I don't think the administration has any great tricks up their sleeves. They're just idiots. And from now until November we'll have to hear them try to act like this election is somehow not a referendum on Obama's tenure (which all reelection campaigns are) until the voters inevitably toss Obama out. Then we'll see if Romney and the Republicans can do any better than Dubya and the Republicans did the last time the GOP ruled the roost (I'm not going to hold my breath). |

I think it was just a major oversight on their part picking this slogan |
