Quantum Leap (1989-1993) Quantum_Leap_1217359185_1989

Just finished the first season, and it makes me glad later episodes dropped the Bakula narration because he's not very good at it, unless it's a Captain's Log. It's a pretty awkward season, I only watched this show a lot from reruns so I think the bulk of it was S2 and 3.

"Genesis"

Pretty okay, only a few issues: 1) Bakula's narration doesn't work for me. I think they could have handled it just fine without it somehow. 2) The baseball part at the end feels tacked on as if they ran out of ideas on how to keep this feature length going. Should have just been a hone-hour pilot focusing on Sam trying to achieve Mach 3.

"Star-Crossed"

Didn't do much for me, though a young Terri Hatcher is great to look at. And the Watergate thing at the end, feels unnecessary.

"The Right Hand of God"

Well, the nun's kind of cute.

"How the Tess Was Won"

Not terrible, but it just doesn't work to well for me. And that dork being Buddy Holly all along, with Sam giving him the idea of Peggy Sue. Like Watergate in the other episode, unnecessary.

"The Color of Truth"

I was thinking this would be a DRIVING MISS DAISY rip-off, then I realized this was broadcast 7 months earlier than the flick. Go figure. Works for me though, even if it gets a bit cliche at the very end in the diner.

"Camikazi Kid"

Sam leaps into a teen flick, I liked it okay.

"Play it Again, Seymour"

I think this might be my favorite of the season. I dig the noir look, I even turned the color off of the TV and it looked great in some places, particularly the night club. Then I look up and it's the pilot that wins the Emmy for cinematography, not this one. Hmm.

So far, it ranges from passable to really enjoyable, but I don't find it too great just looking at this season. Bakula is fine, but it's Dean Stockwell that steals all the scenes for me but he's perfect as the sidekick, I dunno how his character would translate as a protagonist. laugh Anyway, I'll definitely be continuing with the second season...

I don't understand the 80's and I never will.
