| I had created a thread right before you posted this, I figured it was too big and too odd not to get it's own thread. But I guess this will do.
Shocking news. Guy jumped off of a bridge. The whole thing is just completely out of left field. |

Sure is. "Days of Thunder" and "Top Gun" were a couple of my favorite movies as a kid. Really sad to ponder what must've caused this to happen. |

| Do what?
Is this a sick joke?
He has 7-8 projects he is producing or directing that are in progress and he goes and commits suicide?

| The man was a legend, and was my inspiration to be a film director. If I could ever have made it in Hollywood, his style and films would be the person I would most want to replicate.
Ever since I saw Top Gun, he was the man! It's sad to think there will never be a new Tony Scott film for me to watch, and I think this is a sad reflection of how fucked up Hollywood can be. A phoney, lonely place.
RIP Tony. You were and always will be my all-time favourite film director. I would have loved to have seen him direct a Bond film, composed by John Barry. Sadly this will never happen.
His and John Barry's death really shocked and saddened me, far more than any other in the film industry. |

http://abcnews.go.com/story?id=17039434#.UDJo5aDCTbw I'd say that's understandable. If one is confronted by that sort of thing, one might want to take thier life into their own hands. Though he had a wife and two sons, and it seems like he left them in the dark about it. That's tragic. |

He must have not had it in him to face his family about this so he decided to not go through the pain of his cancer and grief combined. I'd at least try to spend one last day with my friends and family before offing myself, but I suppose it might have been too much for him. |

| This stuff just happens, I guess. We'll probably never know why he did it, unless his letter said something important. Very sad. |

| I read today that he had 47 movie and TV projects either in development or already in production right now.
Makes this whole tragic event even more bizarre. |

| Gutted to hear about Tony Scott. Most around here probably know how I feel about The Hunger, one of the most visually beautiful and visually influential films of the last 30 years.
The Last Boy Scout and True Romance were quite possibly the two wittiest thrillers of the 1990s. LBS is particulalry underrated. I still hate Top Gun. Enemy Of The State was an enjoyable ride back in the day, and I suppose must now be as relevant as ever with it's depiction of just what can happen when too much personal information is fed into the hands of modern technology. Technology owns too many of us now, and Scott & Co tried their best to warn us.
I hugely respect the work Tony did with Ridley re. Shepperton too.
This is a big, big loss as far as directors go. Very few own their own signature style the way Tony did. His and Ridley's style owned and influenced the 80s and beyond in a pretty massive way. He's been very influential, whether for better or worse. His films by and large I usually enjoyed though. Only Domino, The Fan and my own personal opinion of Top Gun being unfathomably popular trash really stick out as low points. The rest ranges from mostly okay/good, sometimes very good (True Romance, Last Boy Scout), and very occasionally exceptional (The Hunger).
I'm really gonna miss the guy, to be completely honest. His death has been constantly on my mind since it was announced. Revisiting the greatest moments of Tony Scott "style triumphs" is always like putting on a beautifully comfortable pair of reliable old slippers to me. Same with old Ridley stuff like Blade Runner, Alien, Black Rain (back when Ridley was Ridley of course).
This is a tough one to get my head around, both circumstances-wise and loss-wise. Tom Cruise called him a visionary and I agree. His best work backs that up.
RIP Tony Scott. Your best work will live forever. Forever and ever.

| I brought home The Last Boy Scout today.
It's still one of my favorite early Tony Scott film.
I can't believe that's Danielle Harris that played Bruce Willis' daughter and Halle Berry (I didn't know who she was back then) as the Stripper! |

| He helped launch or further the careers of quite a few future stars, Tony did. Willem Dafoe gets one line and about 5 seconds of screentime stood outside a phone box in The Hunger, and that was the first anyone had really seen of him.

| Maybe a new thread should be made focusing on his flicks, or perhaps a thread dedicated to both him and his brother unless that's too much. |
