| THE LOVE YOU MAKE: AN INSIDE STORY OF THE BEATLES - Peter Brown & Steven Gaines
The greatest book ever written about them. Unhagiographic, unflattering, well written, and honest. Strongly recommended. |

| Ginger Rogers, My story. The autobiography of Miss Rogers and the story of her life according to Ginger. She is somewhat religious as you will find out when reading it. An easy and entertaining read albeit a somewhat without a lot of depth. |

| The Defence of the Realm: The Authorised History of MI5. (Christopher Andrew)
interesting sometimes fascinating history of the service from its inception to now. Incredible almost how it's targets have changed, German spies pre-World War One to Islamist extremists now.
Funny in a small way how at least fifty books in the bibliography are Andrew's. |

| I'm about halfway through Robin Lane Fox's 'The Classical World: An Epic History From Homer to Hadrian'
Pretty good read considering the scope. It helps that Fox's writing style is accessible and engaging. Obviously best serves as a starting point to more in-depth reading. I'm still tossing up whether to go for his 'Alexander The Great' bio or just jump into Goldsworthy's 'How Rome Fell'.
Any recs? |

| Frank: The Making of A Legend - James Kaplan Superbly engrossing biography of Sinatra that covers from birth up until his oscar win in '53 for FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. For someone who usually loses interest with the books I read these days (usually work/tireness/moviewatching get in the way, and it threatened to in the past few days), to plough through a 700 pager in a week shows how addictive it was. I know people dont like crappy biographical films, but one of Sinatra's early life would be an absolute cracker if they got the right actor. Or maybe just do it like THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL by basing it off real stories, but the characters are fictional. That way we wouldnt have half the film being Sinatra and Gardner arguing and making up. |

| Picked up Kiss guitarist Ace Freley's auto-bio today, No Regrets (2011).
Ahh, to be a rock-star in the 70's. The ultimate bohemians. I'm being kind. Others might day degenerates, reprobates. |

| Haven't cracked it open yet, but this Christmas I intend to read GHETTO AT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD: CHUNGKING MANSIONS, HONG KONG by Gordon Mathews, which looks like an extraordinary book about an extraordinary place. |

| GHOST COUNTRY :2*: by Patrick Lee Kind of surprised by the excellent reviews this book has gotten. It felt very routine and pedestrian to me. The characters aren't memorable, too much of the plot is told to the reader by characters simply filling in back-story gaps......just sort of a ho-hum novel. Nothing to get excited about. |

| The Garner Files --James Garner (and Jon Winokur)
interesting stuff. A 'card carrying/bleeding' liberal' democrat, not too fond of Charlton Heston, punched Glen A Larson, friend of Henry Fonda, fan of Obama, not of Reagan (mainly as SAG president)...etc, etc, etc.
might dig out Support Your Local Sherriff. |

| re-read THE NEW PEARL HARBOR and TOWERS OF DECEPTION. If I lose credibility here or anywhere else for thinking of that day as a falseflag operation, so be it. |

Please elaborate. Who wrote them? What were they about? |

| 9/11 stuff. What I guess is considered by and large to be conspiracy theory.
One focuses on the events of the day and their causes, while the other covers how television and most other news outlets totally dropped the ball on reporting those events and their causes. Probably the most overt case of 'print the legend' that I know of. |

| A book on Hammer might sell reasonably well, though I'm not sure there's much to be said that hasn't been said before. |

| A GATHERING OF SAINTS by Robert Lindsey
An account of the strange tale of Mark Hofmann, who blackmailed the Mormon organization with historical documents that threatened to demolish the very foundations of Mormon belief. It's a pretty extraordinary story on multiple levels, and one of the most damaging PR disasters the Mormons have ever had to grapple with. It's sadly out of print, but you can pick a used copy up pretty cheaply. |
