Live and Let Die Named Best Bond song of all time in BBC poll

London: 'Live and Let Die' by Paul McCartney has been named the best Bond theme of all time in a poll. McCartney recorded the track with his band Wings for the 1973 Bond film of the same name, starring Roger Moore as 007. The track pulled in more than a quarter of the votes in the BBC Radio 5 Live poll. Carly Simon's 'Nobody Does It Better' from 1977 film 'The Spy Who Loved Me' came second while Shirley Bassey's 'Goldfinger' for 1964 film of the same name came third. "

This result doesn't suprise me at all. Live and Let Die was a massive top 40 hit for McCartney in the '70s as was Nobody Does It Better for Carly Simon. Guns and Roses includes Live and Let Die as a staple of their live shows too, as does McCartney.

I think GF was probably a top 40 hit for Bassey in the '60s as well.

Ah, how times have changed.

It used to be a perfidy to even nominate any song that wasn't at least co-created by John Barry.

Just goes to show that having your song hit #1 on Billboard in 1985 doesn't guarantee that it'll have the legs to be declared an all-time classic. Tough luck, Simon & Nick.

Good for Sir Paul (especially since Harry Saltzman didn't care much for it).

Yeah, after watching LALD, I couldn't argue with that. Perhaps it's not my favourite Bond song, but it's definitely up there with the best! Surprised A View to a Kill didn't get a mention...

'A View to a Kill' by Duran Duran in 1985 was forth while Alicia Keys and Jack White's 'Another Way to Die' from 2008 film 'Quantum of Solace' claimed the fifth spot. 'The World Is Not Enough' by Garbage in 1999 and 'Diamonds Are Forever' again by Shirley Bassey in 1971 came sixth and seventh in the poll.

'You Only Live Twice' by Nancy Sinatra in 1967, 'For Your Eyes Only' by Sheena Easton in 1981 and 'You Know My Name' by Chris Cornell for 2006 film Casino Royale rounded off the top-ten list

Aw, screw it - no argument here (and I didn't even make it to the vocal line, which starts when - after the third intro?).

Never liked AWTD. First time I listened to it I was perplexed, by the second hearing I hated it. Quite a disappointment, as I actually like the work Jack White and Alicia Keys have done individually, which probably says something.

LALD song, in my opinoion, is unlistenable, and the lyrics make no sense.

I can name at least 10 better Bond songs, such as YKNM, AVTAK and Goldfinger.

The first Bond themes I reach for on my compilation set are

AVTAK
LALD
FYEO
YOLT
YKMN
TWINE
GE

I guess those are my favourites, even if the movies themselves would rank differently (AVTAK wouldn't even place in my Top 7)
