Having seen both of them, I'm curious about what others think of the two options. In some ways I actually prefer the 1:90 as I think it's in ways more suitable to the kind of story the film goes for. However, 2:35 is pretty much considered the standard since that gets the widest release. Does Mendes have a preference? The film was safe shot (or lack of a better term) for both formats so with 2:35 you're not losing much vital info with the mattes in place.

Then there is the eventual blu-ray release. The two Batman films are very unique as they have the IMAX sections at 1:78 (cropping the original 1:44 to fit widescreen TVs, obviously because it would be even more jarring switching between 1:44 and 2:40 on 16:9 TVs). Would Skyfall's home video release be at 1:90 or keep the 2:35? I'm guessing it will be the latter as that was what they were aiming for general release, but I really wouldn't mind if they decided on 1:90.

I've only seen the IMAX 1.90. I'll see the 2.35 some time. I'll probably prefer the 2.35 framing. IMAX felt odd.

I really, really, really, REALLY hate that about THE DARK KNIGHT Blu-ray. I hate how it switches ratios.

BTW, SKYFALL was my first IMAX film aside from things I saw at the Science Center when I was a kid. Didn't really do much for me. The whole thing with IMAX. I didn't feel like I gained anything from seeing it that way, besides a few more dollars on the price.

True IMAX really looks fantastic. My first was GHOST PROTOCOL then TDKR, I probably prefer the former because that was more colorful.

Same here, though I did like the better sound quality.

1:90 for me. I thought it lost a lot when I saw it in 2:35 (though that had as much to do with the diminished sound as it had to do with the diminished image size). I suppose the Blu-Ray release will be 2:35, right? Shame.

It would be great if the BD had an optional aspect ratio, like they sometimes do with the soundtrack.

I thought the 1.90 framing was too loose, while at 2.35 the framing was precise and pragmatic. 1.90 worked for IMAX because the screen is huge, but wouldn't work for anything smaller. I missed the aggressive IMAX soundtrack more than the extra stuff at the top and bottom of the frame. Now I kinda wished that IMAX theaters could do Bond marathons

I'd expect SF to be framed at 2.35 for the BD and DVD release, but wouldn't be surprised if they used the taller aspect for TV viewings.
