and as the 11th century Islamonazi villain in Samuel Bronston's 1961 epic historical masterpiece El Cid:

Herbert Lom!!! A screen legend. The Panther work is his legacy of course.

He also did some great work in The Man From Uncle two-parter, The Five Daughers Affair, 1967, which also featured future Bond villains Curd Jurgens and Telly Savalas.

Born 1917, the same year as JFK, but Lom lived to age 95. Wow!

I don't know why Siegel played down his abilities so often. Look at the quote accompanying his profile on Mubi for another example:

Siegel was a great director who made important films for 30 years. It pains me that he's not better known.
