PostSubject: Computer help   Computer help EmptySun Feb 10, 2013 3:19 pm

I recently started using my 'big' computer in the library again, which needed a shed load of updates as I haven't used it for a couple of months.

So I updated everything - which took an age - and was merrily browsing Amazon, when I clicked on a link. It was a link in a description of a book, that said The Question, or The Answer. The way it was in the sentence made me think it was a sequel or prequel, so I clicked. It came up with 'win an iphone' and I thought it must still be something to do with the book, because it was a mystery to be solved, and some books do have a prize for solving a problem or something, as a marketing ploy. So I thought, what the heck, clicked, said I'd like whatever, and it took me to another page, which is where it wanted a mobile phone number and stuff, and I thought it wasn't looking so official anymore, so I closed it down and left it.

Since then, popups all over the bloody place. Every website I visit has some random word underlined and whenever my mouse moves over the screen, I get more bloody popups.

I've ran adware, spybot, malware, CCleaner. I've cleaned the drives, deleted cache, history, browsing history. Just about everything I can think of. And I'm still getting these bloody random popus.

I've tried to find a way to block the website, but I can't seem to find the option. I've got popup blockers on, AVG going - I have no idea what else to do.

Someone - please - help? It's driving me loopy,

What internet browser do you use? Methinks it might be hijacked.

Haven't had this problem with Firefox (stopped using IE years ago).

Firefox. Likewise, I haven't used Explorer for ages.

We use Firefox on the laptop, and that's not having this problem.

I think it's worked!

Thank you so much! You're my hero. That bloody thing has been annoying the hell out of me for nearly two days now.

I'm so relieved

Thanks again

I used to use Firefox after I dropped IE 5.5

But Firefox has become a RAM hog.

I now use Chrome and it's so much more stable than Firefox especially when you are on website with a lot of embedded Flash windows.

They're almost even on market share. I haven't tried google chrome yet but might on a new laptop. Firefox works well on ClubSandy too, along with the Flashget downloader which I have as an add-on.
