I've read his book a few times, and it is clear that the last few decades were full of disappointments for him career-wise, with lots of projects and very little coming to fruition. It's really too bad, because I think the guy was quite gifted. Definitely complemented Adam on those Bond films that didn't require all the O-T-T aspects.

Trumpet player Derek Watkins passed away yesterday: http://www.derekwatkins.co.uk/Derek_Watkins/Welcome.html
Dedicated musician. Nice knowing that he was able to contribute to the 50th anniversary film, though.

That's pretty amazing, sad we lose another link to the beginning of the series. RIP.

And this from Mi6: http://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/biography_mitchell_hooks.php3?t=&s=&id=03472
Quote :
American artist and illustrator Mitchell Hooks, who gave the world their first look at a stylized Sean Connery as 007 on the 1962 'Dr. No' poster, died this week at the age of 89.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, USA in 1923, Hooks served in the U.S. Military during the occupation of Germany post World War II before beginning his career as a freelance illustrator in New York City.
His work included painted paperback covers for Avon, Bantam Books, Dell Books, Fawcett Publications and others, and illustrations for magazines including Cosmopolitan, The Saturday Evening Post, The Ladies' Home Journal, Redbook, McCall's, and Woman's Day. He also illustrated romance novels, science fiction and crime fiction, such as the Ross Macdonald's Lew Archer, Peter Corris's Cliff Hardy and B.B. Johnston's Superspade series.
I've got quite a few vintage novels with Hooks' artwork on the covers. Great artist. Another sad loss.

Subject: Paul Bhattacharjee of "Casino Royale" found dead. Thu Jul 18, 2013 5:14 am
Paul Bhattacharjee, a stage and screen actor who appeared in Casino Royale and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and who went missing after leaving rehearsals at the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square, London, on July 10, has been found dead and formally identified.
The 53-year-old actor's last form of communication was a text message he sent to his girlfriend that night at 9 p.m., reports ITV Network. Last Friday, Sussex officers were contacted by Scotland Yard police about a man's body matching the description of Bhattacharjee on the shores of Seaford, East Sussex. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
Bhattacharjee was scheduled to appear on in the play Talk Show at the Royal Court, part of the theater company's Weekly Rep series that mounts six plays in six weeks. He had already appeared in two of the productions. His role for the play has been recast.
His 24-year-old son Rahul Bhattacharjee-Prashar told the Evening Standard that the disappearance was "completely out of character". He added: "He was doing well in his career and everything seemed to be going okay."

I thought the exact same thing! Was he supposed to actually be a doctor? I'm still unclear on what his MI:6 role was.

That's two iconic henchmen within days, and both who happened to get their own bonus levels on GoldenEye 64. Crazy.

Didn't occur to me, good spotting. A bitter few weeks for those of us who were turned onto the world of Bond through that game.

Douglas Wilmer, who played Fanning in Octopussy (a brilliant little role if I say so) amongst many other illustrious roles has passed aged 96.

He had good chemistry with Moore, at least like Macnee there seemed a natural manner. Ninety-six is a fine inning indeed. We should be so lucky.

Sad News Wilmer never seemed to hit the big time but was always a highlight of whatever he appeared. While he put in some Bond time it will be his Holmes and Nayland Smith duties that will probably live on best.
RIP

Seems Scaramanga, from above, picked off someone to join him. RIP Guy Hamilton. A very long life lived, but saddened to hear all the same.

Sad News indeed a very diverse and talented man, by all accounts a genuinely nice one too - RIP Mr Hamilton.
Not Bond related but sad and shocking to note the passing of Victoria Wood at just 62 - a unique and very funny comedienne here in the UK.

A highly accomplished filmmaker by any measure. A big part of the Bond series' success, no doubt, given the fact that he directed its most enduringly popular entry.
