- There has been speculation that the next instalment in the James Bond series may shoot in Ireland, after producer Barbara Broccoli and writer John Logan visited the country.
The Irish Times report that Broccoli and Logan both attended a recent Institute of Directors event in support of the Irish film industry, and that Broccoli expressed a possible interest in shooting there.
The producer is quoted as saying, "Ireland is gorgeous. I'd love to come here and make a Bond film."
The Irish Times also note that American screenwriter and playwright Logan is temporarily relocating to Ireland to work on the Showtime horror series 'Penny Dreadful,' which Bond 24 director Sam Mendes is also producing.
It was announced yesterday that Billie Piper is joining the cast of the €25 million-budgeted TV series, which will shoot in Ireland and London. In a further James Bond connection, former 007 actor Timothy Dalton and 'Casino Royale' actress Eva Green are also set to star.
Logan is quoted as saying he would "soak up the local colour now that I'm here" in Ireland, whilst continuing to work on the script for the 'Skyfall' follow-up alongside his duties on 'Penny Dreadful.'
Logan also expressed pride in his own Irish heritage, declaring "I'm fully Irish," as both his parents came from Belfast. The writer himself was born in Chicago, Illinois.
The as-yet untitled 24th movie in the James Bond series will see Daniel Craig portray 007 for the fourth time, with several of his key 'Skyfall' co-stars returning: Ralph Fiennes as the new M, Ben Whishaw as Q, and Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny.
It has also been reported this week that Moneypenny may have a significantly larger role in the next film, being developed into "a sidekick to James" rather than the desk-bound figure of old, as portrayed by Lois Maxwell, Caroline Bliss and Samantha Bond.
If the next film were to shoot in Ireland, it would be a first for the series.
However, it is possible producer Barbara Broccoli may work in the country on a different project, as she is said to be developing an Ireland-set film with John Carney, director of the acclaimed 2006musical drama 'Once' (2006), of which Broccoli produced a stage adaptation.
She said "I hope we will come here (Ireland) to film whether it is a Bond or another story."
Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson took over at Eon Productions, owners of the Bond film series, following the retirement of her father Albert R 'Cubby' Broccoli in 1990, producing every entry since 'Goldeneye' in 1995. http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/could-bond-24-shoot-ireland-130600598.html |

| Very much so. I'm surprised they haven't shot there before. As far as I know, the closest they ever came was the original plan for the OCTOPUSSY pre-titles, which was going to shoot on the Isle of Mann during the TT. But then it was changed to the mini-jet sequence.
Still, I'm sceptical. The idea that Moneypenny will become a sidekick is ridiculous. The only way I can see that even remotely working out is if Bond tries to take down Quantum once and fir all, and Moneypenny is the messenger from M when M cannot be seen to be sending messages to Bond. |

| It'd be a bit odd for Moneypenny to have started out 'in the field' at the beginning of Skyfall but to have decided on the 'desk job' by the end of it, only to (by the sounds of it) be back out there again in the next film.
And yes, it'd be cool if Ireland was a location in said film.

| It would be a nice to feature this location soon. I too am surprised it has never been. Regarding the Moneypenny sidekick rumors, I'll wait and see how that turns out. Jinx was supposed to be Bond's equal, but she was no different than the most predictable of damsels in distress. |

| Knowing Ireland quite well (my family's 3/4 Irish) I think the most photogenic places would be Glendalough or Bray in County Wiclow (the later looked stunning in Altman's IMAGES), County Galway, or County Kerry. In general, the the west coast of Ireland tends to have a more interesting topography and ecosystem. |

| I wouldn't bet my house on it. The fact is Logan and Babs were already there for the film in Ireland event - Babs probably due to the announced Irish-set film she's producing; and Logan due to his and Mendes' new TV series - Babs probably got cornered by a reporter and then gave a polite but non-committal answer. Ireland is quite beautiful but rather dull for a Bond location. - Prisoner Monkeys wrote:

Quantum will not appear ever again. That I will bet my house on. |

| Not the point I was trying to make. Moneypenny as a sidekick to Bond wouldn't work unless it was under a highly-specific set of circumstances. |
