I was thinking more of downvoting Barbara Bach's legacy of an elite Soviet spy who steals the plans to a submersible car, is surprised by its submersible ability, and then displays an excellent knowledge of its submersible features. For me, it's the dumbest moment in the Bond canon - even dumber than Bond's ability to pilot a space shuttle with no training - and TSWLM is a lousy knock-off of YOLT, which was lousy enough to begin with.

Bond never pilots a shuttle, that was Goodhead. As for Bach, I agree she wasn't great, but then again she's a hell of a lot more convincing as an agent than Denise Richards as a fucking nuclear physicist.

If you take TSWLM seriously (or most Bond films for that matter), you're in for disappointment.

Put it this way: if you're in a car with someone who drives it into the water, how would you react? I figured that she wouldn't have expected Bond to be driving the car, and that once she realises that the car is actually the one she stole the plans for, she knows what it can do. A stretch perhaps, but forgivable.

At least Richards had a bit more sass and personality. And it's the world of Bond - only the Bond-o-verse would have a total babe as a nuclear physicist, just like how a total babe happens to walk out of the sea on an island that is feared, just like a total babe happens to be the sister of a man integral to stealing the NATO planes as well as being Largo's "niece", just like a babe is capable of operating a space shuttle and being a CIA agent, or the hottest computer programmer happens to also be the sole survivor of a space attack. With all the criticism Richards/Christmas Jones gets, at least she's able to assist Bond, i.e. opening/shutting the blast door in the bunker, operating the sub, etc. Unlike Goodnight, for example.

Then how do you get the car into the water? Either you drive in and convert to a submarine, or you convert to a submarine and wait for the tide to come in. Anya is supposed to be an elite agent, and has experience with gadgetry, so she probably shouldn't be surprised.
