This year, Jeremy Renner has been filming two big new sequels in the form of first Avengers: Age of Ultron, and then Mission: Impossible 5, along with Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames. One sequel, however, that Renner won't be filming any time is the The Bourne Legacy 2, which had been scheduled for July 16, 2016. Oh, there's still going to be a Bourne sequel scheduled for that date (just not that one). Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are now in negotiations with Universal Pictures to return for a fourth movie about Jason Bourne, following their collaboration on the two sequels The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). The goal is indeed to get the film ready in time for that 7/16/16 release date.
I like it. Keeps the bar up and forces Bond to compete.

The Bourne franchise grew stale rather quickly imho.
The first two were quite good, but the third was entirely superfluous and the fourth (with Renner in the lead) took the series down a needlessly silly path.

Sounds like Brosnan's career as Bond.

I still don't see why there was a need for that Renner flick. Or why Renner signed up for it in the first place. But grand news about Damon coming back, he always was the guy for Bourne IMO.

Renner was simply a holdover because Matt Damon was, (at least initially), not interested in a 4th Bourne at the time.
Glad he's back...

Probably in the minority here, but I preferred Renner to Damon. For one he looks like a trained killer, not a 12 year army brat. Damon's of the Robert Redford school of acting, and that's not a compliment.

I'd go all Debra Lafave on this 12 year old army brat, mate....

IIRC, Damon wouldn't return last time because he only wanted to work with Greengrass.

The third one had a redundant story, but otherwise it corrected some flaws the second one had. I have no idea though why Damon insisted on Greengrass as a director. I enjoy watching all three of them every now and then again. I forgot most of the fourth one as soon as I left the cinema after seeing the film.

I liked the 4th one for what it was, but I was completely stoked to find out that Damon is coming back to the franchise. I can understand that Damon has some loyalty to Greengrass, but you would think that after the trainwreck that was "Green Zone" he'd be a little less inclined to work with him again. I personally thought Doug Liman did a good job with "The Bourne Identity," and could do another one, but I don't see that happening.

Liman won't be coming back; he seriously fucked off Universal during the making of The Bourne Identity. The overruns and poor box office for Edge of Tomorrow won't have helped either, which is a shame as it has some good qualities.

Oh I know, lol. It is too bad because Liman is a terribly talented director. I loved "Go" and "Swingers."

"Edge of Tomorrow" has a good chance of being profitable after home video revenues are included. So it wasn't a "John Carter" like catastrophe.

No, but it under performed expectations. The reports of overages from Leavesden had accountants scribbling disclaimers across the globe. That said, the first two acts of the film are quite good, certainly more of a feminist rallying cry than anything Prof. Greer concocted. Less shrill too.

I thought it was quite funny and used the "Groundhog Day" structure to its advantage. The third act had too many "paint by numbers" action movie clichés.
Speaking of Greer, I recently stumbled upon this article. Notice the quote about Ophelia.

That must be a very old article. The quote about Ophelia is as stupid as I'd expect from someone who claimed Anne Hathaway wrote Bill's plays. Dick Francis yes, William Shakespeare no.

Oh it's very old, I read it online. It's the May 7th 1971 issue of Life magazine. You will love the cover.

Be interested to see how a fourth will be made to work, given that Ultimatum pretty much brought things to an unambiguous end (Legacy's more of a spin-off than franchise continuation, really).

Here's the latest Bourne movie. Good to see a strongman in the part again.
