Damn, I could have won that.
Some of my favorites:
"I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
"What we've got here is a failure to communicate."
"Dying ain't much of a livin', boy."
"You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means."
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

As a side note Ambler, I would not have guessed you being a fan of "Chasing Amy". Or is it just the quote you like?
One more, this entire exchange from "Comanche Station":
Quote :
Dobie: A man does one thing, one thing in his life he could look back on... go proud. That's enough. Anyway, that's what my pa used to say.
Frank: He talked all the time, didn't he.
Dobie: Yeah. He was a good man. Sure is a shame.
Frank: Shame?
Dobie: Yeah, my pa. He never did amount to anything.

[Making a finger gesture]
Ben Lane: that of doing me with a scatter gun. That taught me a lesson though - always check the brand to make sure you aren't driving another man's stock.
Such an underrated feature.

Isn't it Clerks? I like Kevin Smith, it's just his films I have a problem with.
The westerns are full of great quotes with content rather than just smart ass dialogue. Comanche is a good example. Incidentally, I was discussing what constitutes a good man with my hairdresser the other day. Somewhat to my surprise, she thinks I am. Must try harder.
I might be wrong, but I thought Joey Adams character says that to Jason Lee after she finds out he has a huge mancrush on Ben Affleck.

The idea that a woman isn't any mans property is an aspect of feminist theory I'm happy to agree with.
Well I don't agree with the sentiment, just thought it was another memorable quote.

Seems like you are right Ambler, the Google search returns Clerks.

so many quotes I've enjoyed over the years and yet my mind keeps going to Jack Hawkins' pre-mission speech to the boys in League of Gentlemen. Never mind.

CLERKS is something I always recommend to anyone who's worked in retail. I always wished I had worked in a video store when those were still around. It would have been fun to just recommend some of the worst films to customers I find annoying.

Siegel's THE LINEUP had some nice quotes, too.
"Did he say anything for me?" "He said: 'Why be greedy?'" "Why be greedy?" "Those were his last words." "Why be greedy? That'll print well for an epitaph."
Speaking of films made during the last 50 years, I've seen few scenes that are as dark as Eli Wallach kicking a man in a wheelchair off a balcony.

a couple that come to mind of late having gotten the soundtrack is from Clear and Present Danger. Nothing Earth-shattering, perhaps memorable for Harrison Ford's delivery.
Quote :
The President: How dare you come in here and lecture me!
Jack Ryan: How dare *you*, sir!
The President: How dare you come into this office and bark at me like some little junkyard dog? I am the President of the United States!
Quote :
The President: [on who gets punished for 'Reciprocity'] You'll take the blame. Cutter and Ritter will take some too, but it won't amount to much. They'll get a slap on the wrist and $20,000 an hour on the lecture circuit. The rest, you'll dump on Greer. Yes, you'll take him down with you. You'll *destroy* his reputation. But it won't go any further than that. It's the ol' Potomac two-step, Jack.
Jack Ryan: I'm sorry, Mr. President, I don't dance.
or some Richard Jordan gems from Red October
Mr. Ambassador, you have nearly a hundred naval vessels operating in the North Atlantic right now. Your aircraft has dropped enough sonar buoys so that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without getting his feet wet. Now, shall we dispense with the bull?
Quote :
Ambassador Andrei Lysenko: There is another matter... one I'm reluctant to...
Dr. Jeffrey Pelt: Please.
Ambassador Andrei Lysenko: One of our submarines, an Alfa, was last reported in the area of the Grand Banks. We have not heard from her for some time.
Dr. Jeffrey Pelt: Andrei, you've lost another submarine?

'Q: It always makes me feel a little melancholy - a grand old war ship, being ignominiously hauled away to scrap. The inevitability of time, don't you think? What do you see?
Bond: A bloody big ship. Excuse me.
Q: 007. I'm your new Quartermaster.
Bond: You must be joking.
Q: Why, because I'm not wearing a lab coat?
Bond: Because you still have spots.
Q: My complexion is hardly relevant.
Bond: Your competence is.
Q: Age is no guarantee of efficiency.
Bond: And youth is no guarantee of innovation.
Q: I'll hazard I can do more damage on my laptop sitting in my pyjamas before my first cup of Earl Grey than you can do in a year in the field.
Bond: Oh, so why do you need me?
Q: Every now and then, a trigger has to be pulled.
Bond: Or not pulled. It's hard to know which in your pyjamas, Q. [offers his hand]
