PostSubject: What order did you see the Bond films in?   What order did you see the Bond films in? EmptyTue Mar 29, 2011 6:54 pm

You can add your first impressions if you want. I don't care much for threads that are just people posting lists, but I'm making one anyway. laugh

This is the sequence in which I saw every Bond film (in full):

Never Say Never Again
Didn't notice the lack of Bond watermarks ie. Bond theme or gunbarrel.
Tomorrow Never Dies
Always lost my attention after the HALO jump.
Licence to Kill
Loved it. Watched the hell out of it. When I got back into Bond, it was the film I wanted to watch first.
Dr No
Thought it was too slow.
The Spy Who Loved Me
I remember enjoying the action a lot. Especially the Liparus fight.
Goldfinger
My go-to Bond for the longest time. Great memories of the PTS, the Aston Martin, Gert Frobe, Fort Knox. Usually lost interest when Pussy showed up. What a weak second half.
The Living Daylights
Never gave it much attention, for whatever reason. I'm pretty certain John Glen + pan & scan = horrible, though.
The Man With the Golden Gun
Bored me to death. So routine, so lazy. Terrible title song.
Live and Let Die
On TV, at Christmas. Forgettable.
Moonraker
Same as above. Thought Lois Chiles was attractive and I loved the sets and locations.
Die Another Day
Christmas viewing. Liked Miranda Frost.
A View to a Kill
Watched it while visiting my dad. Rented it from VHS place. Embarrassing. Everyone left the room.
The World is Not Enough
Watched it late one night on TV. Thought it was shit. Made me sleepier.
Casino Royale
Watched it in theatre. Amazing.
GoldenEye
Other than being thrilled by Serra's ''GoldenEye Overture', I don't recall thinking much. Christmas viewing.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Another Christmas viewing. Too much to take in the first time around. Watched it again a year later, and watched it three more times that year.
For Your Eyes Only
Not impressed. This was Moore's best? Christmas viewing.
From Russia, With Love
Mildly underwhelmed. Too much hype. Still, I love it. Christmas viewing.
You Only Live Twice
It's another 60s film, what could go wrong...? Hated it then, hate it now. Also thought it looked & sounded beautiful then, think the same now.
Thunderball
Not impressed. Did a 180 in my opinion on it, then reverted to objectivity. I would've liked this a lot better when I was younger.
Quantum of Solace
Theatre viewing. Enjoyed it, but had distinct thoughts of "okay, this is shit" during certain moments. Not a good thing. Still left on a high.
Octopussy
I didn't pay attention to the plot. But I lol'd.
Diamonds Are Forever
See above.

PostSubject: Re: What order did you see the Bond films in?   What order did you see the Bond films in? EmptyTue Mar 29, 2011 7:39 pm

Christ, hard to remember laugh

Goldeneye (A recorded video off the tv. Saw the pre-title from where Gottfried John rocks up, then the titles, at a friends house, was hooked)
Goldfinger (Channel Ten when they used to show them in random order on Saturday nights. Remember mocking Shirley Bassey's song, Pussy Galore went right over my head)
The Spy Who Loved Me (Channel Ten. Jaws was scary)
Moonraker (Channel Ten. Jaws was still scary)
The Man With The Golden Gun (Channel Ten)
A View To A Kill (Channel Ten. May Day was scary)
The World Is Not Enough (Video. Thoroughly meh.)
Never Say Never Again (Channel Ten, kept wondering which one it was?)
Licence To Kill (Channel Ten, swore on my life at the time that given the title it was the first Bond film... laugh)
Die Another Day (In the cinema for my birthday. Was awesome, I'd hit puberty by then and I think Frost's bra and fencing pants and Halle Berry swayed my opinion...)
Thunderball (dvd rental)
Octopussy (dvd rental)
Tomorrow Never Dies (dvd rental)
Dr No (dvd rental)

Casino Royale (In cinema)

From Russia With Love (First dvd I cracked open when my UE dvd arrived)
For Your Eyes Only (Second^)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Third^)
The Living Daylights (Fourth, on a car trip. Was left wondering how it went unmentioned so often)
Diamonds Are Forever (Had seen bits and pieces, but never the whole thing until recently. Hated it at first)
You Only Live Twice (Honest to God, only watched this one and Live and Let Die two years ago)
Quantum of Solace (Downloaded illegally about two months after it came out. Can't say I regretted not paying for it.)
Live and Let Die

These would start somewhere around 2001.

I'm not sure, but if I were to piece something together, it'd probably be:

The Living Daylights
Diamonds Are Forever?
From Russia With Love?
A View to a Kill?
The rest of them excepting the following:
Die Another Day
You Only Live Twice
Casino Royale
Quantum of Solace

I really have no clue, and I don't know how all of you can remember that!

Well, I saw the first 20 when I was 12. I know I watched Brosnan's first, as they were my most nostalgic. Then I moved to YOLT, AVTAK, MR and OP, as then they were nostalgic. After going through all of Connery's and Moore's (who I thought, along with Brosnan were the "real" Bonds), I reluctantly watched Licence to Kill, which I enjoyed, but wasn't totally swayed by. Then The Living Daylights, which I extremely enjoyed., and watched it about 3 times in 2 days, and then On Her Majesty's Secret, and I watched it about 3 times in 2 days. Immensely enjoyed them both.

I missed Casino Royale that year, but I didn't care much for a blonde Bond then. I eventually bought the film, and with prejudices in my mind, I didn't like CR. I watched it again, free of bias, and I loved it. I think I was overwhelmed by the stunts, which is what made me watch it again.

Then QOS, in O8. Watch it 5 times in the cinemas.

The only ones I truly saw in sequential order were the Dalton, Brozzayawn and Craig films. I technically saw AVTAK in the cinema when I was 4...but that's because I was taken but had no clue what was going on the screen.

PostSubject: Re: What order did you see the Bond films in?   What order did you see the Bond films in? EmptyTue Mar 29, 2011 11:23 pm

Hmmm, this is gonna be a pretty rough estimate, as I'm going back 25-30 years for some of it.

The first Bond films I ever watched (though only partly) were what I later discovered to be parts of OHMSS and TMWTGG on TV, must have been around 1980/81.

But, as far as seeing the films in their entirety goes, I'll try and remember how, where, and when I saw each of them first, if I can....

FYEO - Cinema, 81
DAF - TV, 81 or 82
MR - TV, Xmas 82
OHMSS - TV, 83
DN - VHS, 83
GF - VHS, 83
FRWL - VHS, 83
OP - Cinema, 83
NSNA - Cinema, 83
TSWLM - TV, Xmas 83
YOLT - TV, 83 or 84
TB - TV, 84
LALD - TV, 84
TMWTGG - TV, Xmas Day 84
AVTAK - Cinema, 85
TLD - Cinema, 87
LTK - Cinema, 89
GE - Cinema, 95
TND - Cinema, 97
TWINE - Cinema, 99
DAD - Cinema, 02
CR - Cinema, 06
QOS - Cinema, 08

Man, writing that list made me feel old.

If we're talking start-to-finish rather than bits and pieces, then I believe it was: NSNA, then TND, then GE. That's about all I can remember, but I think LALD might have been next.

I mention bits and pieces because I vaguely remember the scene where Natalya hides in kitchen from Xenia from before I watched any of the Bond films in full.

First one I saw was FYEO, as a young 'un.

Last of the original 20 I saw was OHMSS, I think just after I joined MI6 back in the day, which brought to an end the previous year or so when I accumulated all of them on DVD.

What order did you see the Bond films in? Empty
PostSubject: Re: What order did you see the Bond films in?   What order did you see the Bond films in? EmptyWed Mar 30, 2011 2:59 am

It's late 1997 and so my friend keeps hyping up about the next Bond movie coming out (guess which that was). He was pretty hyped up from the video game of GE that just came out so naturally he was hyped up for anything Bond. I still remember him describing Bond having a watch gadget that shot out rockets. laugh Not sure where that gadget came from. So I get mildly interested in seeing something Bond. I look up the TV guide like I always did when I was a kid. Nothing but NSNA is on the listing for HBO. Cool, now I can catch it. I do and I'm pretty disappointed over it. "That's it?" Sean Connery is pretty cool but the flick was lackluster. Oh well.

I didn't bother catching the then upcoming Bond in theaters. Dunno why. Just never bothered. But later in 1998 Pay-Per-View started showing the flick. Whoo hoo, I can finally watch the flick my friend was going crazy over!

Boy did it suck hard. I was so bored over the film that by the end of the garage chase sequence I switched to something more exciting on Nickelodeon. I would never bother with another Bond film for awhile.

Fall 1999. Another Bond film is about to be released. My mom suggests me and my cousin to go see it during Thanksgiving weekend. We thought of it but said "fuck that movie, we wanna see TOY STORY 2." First part of the sentence didn't happen but that was our sentiment. I eventually got to rent the Bond flick on VHS sometime when it came out in 2000. YAWN. Moved on uninterested in seeing any other Bond flick.

Summer 2000. My cousin comes over to my place and brings some games over to play on the Nintendo 64. Good times good times. One of the games is GoldenEye 007. Very fun game to play. THIS is what got me interested in seeing the other Bond films. Says so much for Brosnan's era doesn't it. laugh And so I became more of a casual fan, not heavy like I would become later. So the first I would see was GoldenEye, naturally I was surprised at how much better it was compared to the other two Brosnan films I got bored over. I'm pretty sure I saw The Living Daylights next. Then it was You Only Live Twice, my first real Connery Bond. Being so familiar with Austin Powers it was distracting to watch this one. laugh The Man with the Golden Gun was my first exposure to Roger Moore.

Then I probably saw the rest in a TV holiday marathon. Except for these three entries for sure...

Licence to Kill in 2002. At this time the TV marathons for some reason were not airing this one and my local rental spot didn't have it available. So the only way to see it was to buy the DVD. I really enjoyed it a lot then, was probably my favorite alongside with GoldenEye at the time (which I also got on DVD for a birthday).

Die Another Day in theaters. I dug it at the time, just like I dug the prequels in theaters. And just like those flicks I would eventually revisit DAD on DVD and be shocked over its shittiness.

And finally For Your Eyes Only. I dunno how or why, but I just never got around to seeing this until early 2006! It was finally at this point I had seen every Bond film ever released. And then eventually I saw CR and QOS when they were released.

So when did I grow beyond a casual Bond fan? It was when I rented From Russia with Love on DVD for New Years 2004. I got to watch it on a big screen tv (not wide) and finally watch it without commercial interruption. I was so drawn in with the whole thing it was from this point where I became more interested with the flicks, the books, ect. And it still my very favorite to this day.

1. GE (1996) - my first time in a movie theatre... great experience, learned some English
2. TND (1998) - on VHS
3. MR (1998) - rented from blockbuster, it's what got me interested in the rest of the classic Bonds
4. DAF (1998) - got the VHS as a gift
5-19. I don't remember the order of the films, but this is what introduced me to the rest of Bond as I taped all the films:

20. TWINE (1999) - really loved it, even went a second time to see it
21. DAD (2002) - she looked hot at first sight, but I had to take a really long shower the morning after
22. CR (2006) - had to sit in the first row, so my neck and head were killing me, especially in the third hour, but worth it
23. CR '67 (2008) - curiosity got the better of me, so I downloaded it... luckily I had plenty of vodka handy
24. QOS (2008) - flew by very fast

PostSubject: Re: What order did you see the Bond films in?   What order did you see the Bond films in? EmptyWed Mar 30, 2011 5:04 am

Can't say 100% sure. My brother and I as kids watched the TBS marathons. Plus whenever we went to the movie store my parents would let us each rent a movie, I always drifted to the Bond section.

The earliest movie I remember watch is The Living Daylights which I rented from a Blockbuster. (Oh, geez, I feel old tongue ) I always picked the odds ones that I had never heard of. I enjoyed Dalton.

After this, I remember they were showing the Bond films on SPIKE in 2002. I caught the tale end of one and I quickly ran and (god I feel old) grabbed a TV guide and saw a little Bond film called Goldfinger was up.

VHS recorded it. Watched it the next day. Almost at the end. I was entranced. The tape didn't record the whole thing! I immediately ran out to the store and got the Bond DVD's that they had in stock. If I recall correctly the only ones out at the time were from the first re-issued box set and the store only had GE, TND GF. I can't remember if I watched these all at once or not. Or in what order. If my memory doesn't fail me I watched them all that day and the day after.

I distinctly remember watching TSWLM on a cold, winter's day after grabbing the DVD. I also remember finding a copy of FYEO once in a used store and grabbing that. I also remember getting Thunderball and You Only Live Twice on (dating myself) VHS, since I couldn't wait for the DVD's. I actually have most of the Bond series on VHS. I got them as the VHS market was crashing and they were selling for 5 bucks or less.

So the best I can do is:

-The Living Daylights
-Goldfinger

Possibly....

-GE/TWINE/TND
-TSWLM/FYEO/YOLT/TB

My God, kudos to many of you for remembering the exact order you saw the Bond films in!!!!!! Because I don't!!!!! laugh

I can tell you that License to Kill was the first Bond film I ever saw. It was on TBS's 15 Days of 007 back in the late 90s. I was 9 years old. Ever since, LTK has had a special place in my heart; it isn't without its problems but I hold it in a favorable light and always will. Oh LTK ❤ Haha

And I still vividly remember the night I saw Casino Royale for the first time back on Nov. 17, 2006. Ah, memories.

Same here! In fact, the only Bonds I have anything like nostalgia for are NSNA, LTK and GF.

My first viewings of the Bond films took place from 2003 to as recently as 2009, so it's not too hard to sort it all out. I remember buying the VHS and DVDs more than I remember watching the films. :) I'm a bit iffy on the order of TV viewings.

I'm lucky there in that I grew up at a time when Bond on TV was still a memorable event, plus it coincided with the dawn of VHS, when it was a pretty big deal that you could record great films from TV and have them to rewatch any time you wanted. When I watch older Bond films today, I still remember the exact point the ad breaks turned up in the old 80's TV screenings. Hell, I've a sharper memory of the 80s than I have of the current decade. laugh

My brother was a Bond fan before me, but he lost interest with the end of Sean (the "real"/ "only"/ etc. 007) Connery's reign. So I saw DAF on my own in Dec '71 and was hooked.

Dr. No & FRWL at the drive-in, summer 72. GF was showing too, but the people I was with insisted on leaving before it started. I'm still bitter about that.

YOLT & TB (in that order) at a cinema retrospective, some time in '72. (Maybe before DN & FRWL?)

OHMSS with DAF in the spring of 73, follwed by LALD that summer. Had no problem with Lazenby or Moore taking over.

GF (finally!) & CR on TV in either late 73 or some time in 74.

From LALD on I was at the first showing of each film the day it opened (which involved winning tickets to OP, AVTAK, TND & DAD, and snagging press passes to NSNA, TLD & LTK). Welcomed Dalton and then Brosnan with open arms.

Finally saw CR '54 on VHS in 94 (as well as Spymaker & GE: TLOIF)

Come CR & QoS I had to forego first night attendance as I was onstage myself (although I worked a Bondlike move into my handling of a pistol in the 06 play, and was swilling martinis in a tuxedo as a Noel Coward character in 08).

Come hell or High River, I'll be there for SF - just you wait and see...

First was probably GF.

I got the DVDs when they came out over 10 years ago, and the last pre-DAD film I saw was YOLT. Second to last was AVTAK, and third was OP.

1.LALD-age 3 first video rental ever. Hooked completely. Have seen this a trillion times.
2.AVTAK-second video rental, watched a billion times.
3.TMWTGG-Christmas present, as LALD was out of stock. I was the kid who thought Moore was the coolest person ever.
I started seeing the rest on the 15 days of 007 TBS marathons. each November was like Christmas coming early. I scheduled, watched and recorded these religiously as I also collected the VHS tapes, but being where I was in the early 90's it was a pretty difficult achievement to get all the titles. Some I had to wait years for, and every year the marathons always scheduled FRWL and OHMSS at 12, 2, and 4 am on school days!!! No way I could ever be allowed to see those!.
Finally started to finish off the collection and replace those precious TBS taped versions. I sitll have all of these and adore the mid-90's VHS covers.
OHMSS turned out to be the limited Letterboxed edition and here I first discovered full screen vs. widescreen and the beauty of 2.35 scope.
GE-Missed out theatrically but saw on the VHS that came packaged with the Complete Dossier CD-ROM.
TND-in theater, huge experience, okay movie.
TWINE-theatrically, saw late night show with the DTS mix cranked really loud, still my favorite Brosnan.
DAD-saw twice theatrically. First time was in a huge expensive theater, where the poor manager thought the Madonna song had blown their brand new amps. Second time with family in a smaller venue.
CR-Saw theatrically. Felt violated.
QOS-Theatrically with passes as I refused to pay to go and see it. Beyond numb.
