I only see Bond 25 coming out in 2017 if EON manages to secure a filmmaker for that date, which is why they couldn't for 2014.

That and John Logan is working on his second script. But somehow I don't think John Logan will be asked back for Bond 25 - at least for a first draft...

That two-parter idea was scrapped a long time ago, so whatever form the script took after all the rewrites likely rendered that second script unusable.

If EON can smoothly get this to work for a 2017 release, good. If not, well then that ties Craig with Moore in having the same amount of years as Bond, albeit with two less films.

It's possible, but who knows what may or may not happen in the meantime. I would love for a 2017 release. SPECTRE would have been out by now had they not waited for Mendes.

I still laugh every time I think of them slating Quantum of Solace for a May 2008 release date. Jesus. What were they thinking? I know they pushed it back, but damn. Let's be realistic.

And that's what drove Roger Michell walk out of Bond 22 too. I've always been curious how he would have handled it.

I wonder if Logan is contracted for Bond 25 though, even if the 2-part idea is gone.

I would highly, highly doubt he will be back for Bond 25 after the the problems his draft caused the producers.

Yeah absolutely. Though I'd be fine with a Purvis/Wade/Logan combo if it means another SF level entry.

Are there any writers that people think would write a good Bond film?

It's not that unusual for drafts to cause those issues. That's why they're called "drafts".

And Purvis and Wade have been a part of the franchise since 1998. Following the success of SKYFALL, can you really fault them for wanting to keep the momentum going by exploring changing the writing line-up a bit? I'd rather that they try something new and bin it than to stick to the same old same without considering alternatives.

I don't think EON has contracts for writers. They're always hired one film at a time, like the composers.

That seems likely, though at this stage they probably have a fairly clear idea of what the story of BOND 25 will be. I also imagine BOND 25 will be Craig's last.

Given how frequently they've approached him, and his interest, I suspect Christopher Nolan will helm BOND 26, which will see the arrival of a new 007.

I really hope Nolan stays away from Bond. Hopefully the fact that he would probably want to write  and direct will deter the producers. Would prefer Joe Wright to be the next director after Mendes. And he can bring in Seamus McGarvey for cinematography and I'd be happy with Dario Marianelli for the score! Though it would be good to get Arnold back...

PostSubject: Re: Bond 25 (2019)   Bond 25 (2019) EmptyTue Dec 30, 2014 11:11 am

Lately an idea has been forming up in my mind as to how I would approach BOND 25. Or possibly BOND 26 - it would be the final confrontation between Bond and Blofeld.

The premise is pretty straight-forward; it's YOLT, though I would call it THE GARDEN OF DEATH or possibly BEDLAM. Blofeld has set himself up in the Garden, and Bond must find him. As they won't actually meet face-to-face until the end, there needs to be a primary antagonist. For this role, I envision a South African villain. Remember LETHAL WEAPON 2? It's never established what the South Africans are doing, but their villainy is carried on their accents. That has always stuck with me. Anyway, here the villain is essentially Blofeld's henchman, sent to stop Bond.

The pre-titles would be in Malaysia or Indonesia. It would be self-contained, a bit like the GF sequence. I chose the location purely for the sake of seeing Bond in the tropics.

The main story would start somewhere in "old Europe". This would represent the familiar, somewhere that Bond works within his means. It's everything he knows, everything that he is comfortable with. The city itself would be one so laden with history that the buildings themselves almost have their own gravitational pull. Ideally, it would be land-locked; a coastal city feels far more open, which I think would be the wrong mood here. As for which city, Vienna would be my preference, but I think Stockholm or Kiev would work equally well. Paris is also a possibility, so long as the film stays away from the tourist destinations.

After Europe, the film would move to Dubai. Bond would hate Dubai, but that's no reason not to go - it's shallow and it's empty, a Disneyland for adults that has failed. Where Europe is the old world, this is the new. It's everything that Bond has encountered outside the scope of his assignments. It's part of what he is fighting for, not what he is fighting against, and he must reconcile that.

Finally, the film would move to Nepal. The Garden was originally in Japan, but I always read YOLT as Bond pursuing Blofeld to the ends of the earth, and I think Nepal is a better fit for that today. Here, Bond is travelling overland, and it draws on DN; getting to the Garden is like Dr. No's endurance test - Bond has to cross mountains and deal with a lack of oxygen, and go sperlunking through geothermal caves and face suffocating natural gases. The Garden itself would be a Buddhist fortress, populated by venomous creatures and trees associated with death (like strangular figs). The actual fight with Blofeld would be brief; surviving the Garden would be the real challenge. Ultimately, the Garden would be destroyed in an avalanche.

Much like the novel, Bond would survive, but he would not be heard from again. He would not suffer amnesia here; rather, M would narrate a report of the Garden's destruction from a station chief as we see Bond walking away.

The reason for this is that when I read YOLT, I see more than just Bond chasing Blofeld to the ends of the earth. Blofeld is really a demon, and the Garden his domain, a nest of corruption leeching off the nobility of a people in order to sustain itself. Both it and Blofeld need to be wiped off the face of the earth, whatever the cost, and that is the feeling that I would aim to recreate. To me, a large part of YOLT is Bond preparing himself for death; he knows that he is unlikely to return. And in a way, he dies - his amnesia wipes his memories away, clearing his conscience and expelling the trauma. That part of him dies, and he is reborn as a reward for purging the world of evil, able to live an "ordinary" life.

Indeed, to think that Dr No to Thunderball came out 1962-1965. Different times I guess.
