On with the business of 2015

Any plans? Goals?

I just might go up for grading later this year...shotokan karate...am currently a black belt but have always shied away from advancing to second degree.

My daughter is raring to go, she's starting beginner's classes next week and has her old mom to train her at home too.

Plus...looking to acquire a beach house.

And thankfully....no exams this year....I feel so free.

I'll be working hard to lose another twenty pounds (I've lost sixty already).

I hope to write more than I did in 2014.

I hope to find a new, larger home.

I want to finish reading every novel written by James Ellroy.

I plan to tour the wineries of upstate New York (my wife and I took a preliminary trip up to the Finger Lakes this past year; we loved it so much we've decided to make it a yearly trip).

And, on a purely materialistic note, I'd like to add a Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic and a Tissot Le Locle to my watch collection before the year is out.

- Clean up the house.

- Continue breathing.

That's about all I can think of.

Finally get to San Francisco and other points in the States. (In my near 30 years, my only foreign foray is about 48hrs in Nice).

Move out, new job, get close to London (I'd say into London but I'd need to find some rich Russian I suspect)

to partly echo Harms, I'd like to meet James Ellroy.

In fact I might just tag behind Harms. :)

Oh. And Lucy Pinder.

I had a long-needed surgery on my knee today. My first 6 weeks of 2015 will be spent on crutches and pain killers.

The nurse was gorgeous and flirting. Shame they put me under too soon to find out more about her. First disappointment of 2015.

I'll probably pick up Casino Royale tomorrow and start reading for our Fleming-a-thon.

They're pre-existing goals, so not really New Year's resolutions. More along the line of the whole F. Scott Fitzgerald 'if you want to change your life do it' thing.

- drink good quality alcohol, more often, in smaller quantities. Save big nights for special occasions with close friends.
- lose the last 10kg that I put on in the past 2 (lost about 30kg last year). To be achieved through a combination of running and strength training
- reclaim running as my 'thing'. Aiming to run a half-marathon by May.Training for an ultra-marathon at the moment but I don't think I'll be fit enough in time.
- finally boff the 4 girl's I've been playing the long game with while I reclaimed my rig.
- Write and read more outside of pre-existing university work and extra-curriculars (eg. student paper)
- invest 50% of my surplus income in defensive investments.
- deepen existing friendships and develop budding ones with people I respect/admire/enjoy.
- cut ties/distance myself from sappers and sad cases.
- strategically position myself for advancement for next year/to be a sizeable part of various projects/organisations I'm already a part of. Perform to such a level in existing leadership/other positions to build further momentum on the back of last year's achievements.
- cultivate existing political connections and lay ground work for advancement.
- Be nicer to people I don't like.
- start evaluating romantic prospects more seriously and strategically with an eye to the long term.

Probably the one I grapple with the most. If I don't like you, it telegraphs.

Especially this year, which is an election year locally.

I'm already grinding an axe to plunge into those on the other side.

I mean purely on a superficial level. I usually dislike people for a justifiable reason, but it's easier to be nice/neutral than put the effort in to hold a grudge. Drinking poison and expecting the other person to die and all that stuff. Not to mention I've heard second hand from mutual friends of people who aren't the biggest fans of myself that people find it a genuine mindfuck for someone they dislike to be nice to them. That's always a plus.

How was everyone's year? Achieve the goals you set out?

I started the year needing a new agent as mine closed it's doors in Dec. 2014. Took me five months to nail one down, and when I did, I got a quite a few decent auditions. But the last two months were quieter and yesterday I booked a small role in a big Aussie film with people who have worked on all kinds on films, from American blockbusters, to independent Aussie films, to Oscar winning animations. After a shaky start to the year and string of unsuccessful auditions, I'm stoked to end the year off this way. Will be great to add to my CV, and to start 2016 off with interest from casting peeps and a new, substantial credit in the first month! And to top it off, it was offered to me - so I didn't have to audition!

Yeah, didn't quite achieve the first one but the second one I'm doing good on so everything's good. The year I got a Criterion Blu-ray of Mulholland Dr. is a year I'm never going to complain about though anyways.

I still remember that nurse. As for the knee, it's as good as it's going to get.

Merry Christmas all. It's so odd for me. I can't remember ever having a Christmas without a major snow fall. So odd having a Christmas with 72 degree weather.

Either way, it should be a fun week of thinking of things I need to improve on in 2016, but never following through with them or implementing them as in years past.
