Quote :
Rocker Chris Cornell, who gained fame as the lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died at age 52, according to his representative.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Brian Bumbery said Cornell died on Wednesday (US time) night in Detroit.

Mr Bumbery called the death "sudden and unexpected" and said Cornell's wife and family were shocked.

The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy.

Born July 20, 1964 Cornell become one of the driving forces behind the creation of the grunge movement.

He was best known as the lead vocalist, song writer and as a rhythm guitarist for Soundgarden, which was founded in Seattle alongside similar groups Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Cornell also performed with three of the four Rage Against the Machine musicians in Audioslave, and was the founder and frontman of Temple of the Dog.

He found mainstream success when he collaborated and sang You Know My Name, the theme song for the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale.

R.I.P.

Thought 'You Know My Name' was great.

Sad news... I too thought You Know My Name was great. Best part of CR in my opinion, with Kleinman's titles.

Daniel Craig pays tribute: "This is very sad news, my thoughts are with his family".

(You can click the link if you want, but that's literally all Craig says. Cornell had said he accepted the job of singing YKMN because he liked how Bond was being reimagined after not liking the last few Bond films. He wrote the song's lyrics after about 1 month of letting the song percolate in his mind).

Very sad news ... You Know My Name was a cracking theme song, and Soundgarden's 'Superunknown' album was a fine slice of 90s grunge-rock.
