| Heh, I guess A Knight's Tale had the right idea when it had upfront deliberate ones (Nike 'swoosh' on Heath Ledger's armour, London Eye made of wood visible on the city skyline etc) because the director reckoned that people look for them anyway (like Cliff and Norm, hehehe).
The Liam Neeson thriller Under Suspicion was set in 1959, and yet at one point a pair of BT phoneboxes that obviously belong to the film's release year (1991) can be seen so clearly you wonder how on Earth nobody on the production thought 'Oh, hang on ... '. |

| I knew the name was familiar for some reason and I had intended to watch it as the same director did Payback. |

| Ad Astra
A phenomenal lead performance by Brad Pitt and exciting visuals but let down slightly by a messy ending. |

| Our Kind Of Traitor - Le Carre adaptation in which a university lecturer and his barrister wife are befriended by a Russian whilst on holiday in Morocco. He turns out to be a money-launderer for the Russian Mafia, and hands over a memory stick (containing details of corrupt British politicians and businessmen colluding in a plot with the mob to open a new bank in London to launder billions) to the couple with instructions for them to hand it over to MI6 on their return, in the hope that this will allow him and his family to defect. They do, and assume that will be the end of their involvement ... but of course it's not as simple as that.
A nicely taut thriller, of interest not least because it stars 2 past potential Bonds (Ewan McGregor and Damian Lewis) and Naomie Harris, of course the current Moneypenny. And Stellan Skarsgard puts in a great turn as the hearty, garrulous Russian. |

| ^ Underrated little gem, that. Seen it a few times. Skarsgard is excellent in it and a good reason to offer him a Bond villain role. |

| Absolutely he would. Since he's really an ally in Our Kind of Traitor but in that rogue Kerim Bey/Columbo/Zukovsky mould, I'd like to see him unhinged. |

| Lethal Weapon 2 - the Tivo 'Suggested Recordings' section came up trumps again last night. The last time I tried to play the DVD a couple of months ago it was faulty and I never got past the first 10 minutes as a result, so I was pleased.
Gibson's roguish charm, Glover's exasperated family man, Pesci driving everybody crazy, Ackland and O'Connor's hissable racist bad guys, Kensit's bee-sting boobies, mayhem and wisecracks that still stand up 30 years on ... fun, fun, fun.

| Passion Of The Christ 2 : This Time, It's Biblical!
Haven't seen the first one ... am happy enough to suspend my disbelief in the spiritual/supernatural to watch horror movies, but that's about it. |

| Dirty Harry - celebration or critique of 'hardline' policing methods? Don Siegel lets you decide, whilst Eastwood's Inspector Callahan busies himself with the search for a killer terrorising San Fran and in the process creates one of cinema's most memorable anti-heroes, all backed by a fantastic Lalo Schifrin score. A seminal cop thriller. |

| I think the only one I've seen in its entirety was the last one (The Dead Pool). If you're fine with (for example) a car chase involving Harry and partner in a 'standard' sized car being pursued by an explosives-rigged remote-controlled toy car which the bad guy is 'driving', then you could give it a go (although you may find yourself pondering that it's a long way from the relative grit and jet-black humour of Dirty Harry). |

| Lethal Weapon 3 - it seems strange to say that a film that opens with the destruction of an entire building seems more subdued than its predecessors, but it undoubtedly is. Richard Donner apparently toned down action scenes in favour of emphasising the relationship between Riggs and Murtagh, which may explain it.
Still, Rene Russo is a welcome addition as an ass-kickin' Internal Affairs officer and Joe Pesci returns as the motor-mouthed Leo Getz, now a real-estate agent. Fun enough. |

| Edge of Darkness.
Some dodgy performances and clunky writing aside, it's not bad. Some nice shots in there. Wouldn't rush to see it again.
A Campbell ranking would be something like this:
1. Goldeneye 2. The Mask of Zorro 3. The Foreigner 4. Edge of Darkness 5. Casino Royale
Hope circumstances sort themselves out and he can get on with making Hemingway's Across The River and Into The Trees with Brosnan. |

are we doing the series? I watched Magnum Force last night. I didn't think the direction looked quite as good, it had a bit of a TV look but I didn't feel like it hurt the film and I liked the plot better than the first one. It has a real dirty, greasy feel to it all too. oh and a groovy soundtrack |
