If the producers were smart they'd hire the Canadian Jazz-Funk Fusion duo Four80East not only to create the title track for the score to NTtD, but to score the entire film. For my money, they are the most interesting, cool and inventive musical group on the planet and have been for some time. They're also influenced by Bond music, whether they realize it or not. The link below is for their first album, which was released in 1997. It's one of their best.

I think they've found themselves a new subscriber. I'd certainly like their take on a Bond theme.
Unfortunately, I doubt Four80East would be big enough for Eon. I have no doubt it will be someone like Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran (ugh) or even Harry Styles.

Yeah, total pipe dream on my part. Selecting Four80East would take real guts, unlike making 007 a black woman, which is about the safest Hollywood ploy imaginable.

I don't know about it taking real guts. They're great musicians. No one ever really goes to watch a Bond film because of the title singer, I don't imagine. And in terms of publicity, doing a complete 180 after getting the likes of Alicia Keys, Adele and Sam Smith-- I'm sure it will make news because it will be so surprising.
Thanks again for sharing-- I've been listening to their stuff everyday!

You may be right. Perhaps Four80East would be an inspired choice in terms of publicity as well as musicianship. Would be something of a financial gamble, though. The Producers go for the big names because of the sure fire publicity pop and because some the fanboys and girls of the chosen musician might be lured to the cinema to hear the title track in the theater. Four80East wouldn't create the buzz of a Madonna or an Adele.
Glad you love Four80East. I'll probably acquire their whole catalog on CD. They're unbelievably creative and talented.

Their name has reminded me that Thunderball (in its '58 script form) was called 'Longitude 78 West'.

I can absolutely hear the Bond music influence... I'm hearing swells of Bond 77, Goldeneye, Thunderball and OHMSS.

Bryan Adams, William Shatner, Dan Akyroyd, Ryans Gosling and Reynolds, Michael J. Fox, Mike Myers, Keanu Reeves, Donald and Kiefer Sutherland, Phil Hartman, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, stand-up Katherine Ryan, Carrie-Anne Moss, Will Arnett, k.d. lang.
Not Justin Bieber, Celine Dion or Michael Buble though. Obviously.

That's definitely the James Bond theme chord progression at the 1 minute mark.

Harry Styles I could go with. He's surprised me as an artist, as I used to write him off as just another teeny bopper, but he's got promise. If he were to do Bond, I'd like him to do more of a rock ballad.
Never heard of Dua Lipa.
And Ed Sheeran, eh, please NO.

Styles has surprised me also. He's got a set of lungs on him that is quite powerful and I think he'd be capable of belting out a LALD/AVTAK-esque Bond anthem. Or rock ballad.
Dua Lipa has that classic ballsiness to her vocal sound but also a femininity that I think would work for Bond. And she's certainly trending enough these days to get a look in. This is perhaps her most recent hit:
It's also a no from me for Ed Sheehan, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's asked to perform one.

Renowned jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard was obviously influenced by Barry.

Much obliged, KKBB. If you listen to jazz from, say, 1965 through 1972, you will hear many echoes of Barry.
