| Well, shiver me nurglers. A few years ago an iceberg formed from Antarctica and was said to be the largest ever recorded. Seems in the past week or two, A68a (not exactly an inspiring name and nowhere related to the road) has started to draw closer to South Georgia. 4200 sq km and big enough for Greater London to sit on it and leave room to spare. https://www.npr.org/2020/12/05/943488926/photos-capture-worlds-largest-iceberg-as-it-heads-toward-south-atlantic-island?t=1607619487783 Biggest thing to hit it since 1982. Though in seriousness, it'll ruin things for the penguins. Guess it gives the RAF something to do out of Mount Pleasant or the Navy. |

| Will they open it up only to find it was being driven erratically by a worse-for-Stolly MI6 popsy (as was)? |

| There's hope. The RAF photos do show tunnels into it, so there might well be a fleet of SIS blondes. And South Georgia is several days to Alaska. |

| Total aside, I read in some book that when people turn up at the British base in Antarctica (Rothera I think), they get bags searched and pornography's confiscated. Judging by the book, it's the biggest quantity of things 'smuggled' into the BAS base what with the solitude etc. Author was shown the 'contraband' and it was overfilling.
Poor swines. |

Poor swines. I was about to say 'Broadband is their friend', but then it occurred to me that Antarctica's internet connectivity may not be all that. |

| On the quiet the net seems sharp. Still, I imagine the bandwidth goes something quick with all the other bases down there. - CJB wrote:

| Iceberg watch...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-55413969
looks like it's splitting into bits but still could pose a threat to South Georgia. Question is, does that mean we have a68a, a68b, a68c?
In a year of stupidity, I think this is awfully fascating. |
