Canada gets a few mentions in the series (Thunderball, Goldeneye, QoS) but I always wondered why it was never used as a location in any movie (other than the ski jump at the beginning of TSWLM, but that was meant to pass as Europe). Then today, I watched Dutch Bond Fan’s new video on the intended third Timothy Dalton film, and discovered that a portion was planned to be shot in British Columbia, Vancouver specifically (seems logical -it’s beautiful, large Chinese population, which fits with the film, has “British” in the name lol!) Alas, it never happened, and Bond has still never visited Canada. Seems strange, since it is widely acknowledged that a big influence on Fleming for the Bond character was Sir William Stephenson. “James Bond is a highly romanticised version of a true spy,” Fleming wrote. “The real thing ... is William Stephenson.” You might know him as a Man Named Intrepid. Plus, it is believed that Fleming spent time at Camp X outside of Toronto during the war.
Here is a link to the video. The unmade movie looks like it would have been awesome! I’d never heard anything about it before. How about you guys and girls?

Canada features fairly prominently in Fleming's literature. Vivienne Michelle is a Quebecer who begins her fateful Vespa journey in Canada, and in the short story, "For Your Eyes Only," Bond's original base of operations in in Canada just over the border from New York state. I would be happy to see a faithful version of the latter--basically a one-man seek-and-destroy mission set in dense forests--in a Bond film.

Were you not paying attention? Just off the top of my head, with some repeats, maybe because: -Canada has many stunningly beautiful locations (don't forget, the ski jump at the beginning of TSWLM was filmed in Canada) -Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver are world-class cities -The third Dalton movie was intended to include Vancouver, which was the original point of this thread, so why not continue with that idea? -Fleming was purported to have spent time at Camp X during WWII -Sir William Stephenson, the man Fleming said "is James Bond" was Canadian -Many historians consider the Cold War to have begun in Canada It seems the question is not "why would he want to?", but "why wouldn't he want to"? Besides, how cool would it be if James Bond was in Toronto and walked by St. James-Bond United Church? Meta!

"Self-loathing" is the term I would use.

Stephenson is also portrayed as himself but in fiction, as a character who has Bond stay with him during his recuperation for the stretch of John Pearson's 'bio of 007' novel. Is it possibly he is described as a short wiry Canadian
