Synopsis On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

I'm actually looking forward to this, as it's been too long since the Muppets were on the big screen, having descended into rubbish made-for-TV flicks for about a decade now. Also looks like it's trying to recapture some of the madcap energy of the older Muppet stuff, which is good. And Amy Adams is of course hot. Jack Black and Ricky Gervais are in this film as well which, while hardly thrilling news, may help give the film a bit more pull.
Anyway, I hope this film is a massive hit.
Just wondering..... it's surely time the Muppets did a Bond spoof flick? Hell, Babs & MGW have given them plenty of comedic ammo to use over the last ten years or so.....

"I must say Miss Piggy seems quite attractive... for a woman".
Statler & Waldorf would make a f***ing AWESOME Wint and Kidd. 8)

Fonzie falls to his death after stepping on to a sabotaged bridge.
WALDORF: He fell pretty fur, Mr. Statler.
STATLER: I guess it was more the bridge could bear, Mr. Waldorf.
STATLER AND WALDORF: Hahahahahahahaha!

Looks fun. I like Adams and Segal so having them interacting with the muppets should be fun.

Funny thing: I was watching CAN'T HARDLY WAIT on TV the other day and noticed Jason Segel's cameo, crazy to see him when he was only 18. There's a lot of people in that flick that had short roles.

I actually am looking forward to this, but I really hope it's genuinely good. The last good Muppets movie IMO was Muppet Christmas Carol from 1992, and even that's on the fence.

"The Muppets" is the first feature-length Muppets film since 1999's "Muppets In Space."
I got the chance to catch this last week and it was something else. Even as a '90s baby, I got a steady dose of the Muppets as a kid, so boy, was "The Muppets" a wonderful nostalgia rush. But it's not only that — it's got plenty of charm, heart and that zany Muppet humor to make it a nice change-up from the morose "grittiness" and cynicism in the world and cinema today.

Super DUPER excited about this movie. I'm going to see it this weekend, and I rarely see movies on opening week these days. I'm a huge Muppets fan, and it's something my whole family and I love.
Really glad to hear you say you liked it, because if this movie turned out to not meet my expectations, it would probably ruin my year.

It's the best Muppets movie since "The Great Muppet Caper" thirty years ago, no doubt. Great songs, great jokes, great cameos, and most important the Muppets themselves are front and center, not Segal and Adams. I smiled the whole time, laughed multiple times, and even cried once or twice.

THE MUPPETS was admittedly wonderful. I expected a cynical cash-in, but this turned out to be as good a Muppet film as could be asked for.

I liked it a lot. I wouldn't say it was as "classic" as the first three, but it was of the same caliber. I wasn't disappointed.

After more discussion about it, I think the thing that held it back for me is that it wasn't much of a stand alone movie. All of the others I feel you can watch on their own with no lack of enjoyment of any part. This one was filled with so much nostalgia and in-jokes that it wasn't something that someone without a history of Muppet fandom of some kind could appreciate as much. It didn't affect my enjoyment of it, but that's what kept it from being as good as the classics.
