| I do admit that TWINE holds a special place in my rankings, mostly because it was my first genuine Bond experience. I saw it in theatres on my 13th birthday, and that's what got my hooked on Bond.
And when you look past the bad acting, its total indecision over who is really the villain, and the way the story tends to come to a screeching halt for the action sequences, it's actually got quite a clever story to it. |

| The only one with the questionable performance is Richards', but seeing that Bond films aren't (or shouldn't be) aiming for Oscars, I think we can excuse her performance. She's hot, and while not as classy as Claudine Auger or Ursula Andress, she's sits at around the same in terms of acting ability. I like Christmas Jones - at least her character isn't an obnoxious and annoying t*** like Pam, Giacinta or Holly... Elektra and Carlyle are fantastic though - I consider Elektra to be the main villain... It's pretty much explained that she was the brains behind it all. And I think Brosnan gives a great performance (I used to rate it his best, but I think TND and DAD are better).
I will agree and say the story is one of the most interesting and intriguing in the franchise, along with DN, FRWL, FYEO, OP, TLD and GE.
And Groucho: No love for the Banker's Scene, boat chase, Renard's interrogation in the bunker or Q's scene? |

| Richards was the least of TWINE's problems, she was just an utterly bland inoffensive character played by a bland actress. There's not much to say beyond that. TWINE's got bigger problems than Richards silicone produced tits. - Quote :

Hard to love them, most of those are retarded especially the boat chase which was completely nonsensical from the moment Cigar Girl started shooting at Bond for no good reason other than to cue a bland action sequence by Vic Armstrong. |

| The bank scene contained one of Arnold's better cues for the film. That's about all it was good for.
TWINE is another piece of Brosnan-era trash, but I like it a lot more than TND. Sophie Marceau should be recycled into the series. |

As for QOS, I never saw it as the abomination some claim, but I didn't love it either. It's more middle of the road for me... My feelings as well. QOS has some very glaring weaknesses as a Bond film, but it also has its fair share of strengths. Outside of certain aspects in the pre-Barry segment, DAD, on the other hand, is just one big stinkbomb. For me it's TWINE that's the worst of the films. If anything, I think it's slightly underrated. Denise Richards, of course, is one of the very worst Bond girls but at least she's easy on the eye, which one cannot say for Barbara Bach. A bit too much action as well. But the title track is very good, so is the first half of the PTS, I much like the plot and consider Renard a tremendously underrated character. I also approve of the conclusion on the sub. |

| There are two quite unredeemable flaws that make TWINE a Bond movie I still find hard to watch. One is Denise Richards in the Christmas Jones role. The other is the stupid M plot-line. You cannot really argue that the movie is fine beyond that, since changing those two aspects would essentially alter over half of the movie. |

| The worst thing about TWINE is Broz. He's just not a very convincing Bond. I have to lump all his films in together. Otherwise I'm not much bothered by other elements of the Brozzer films. I like the OTT, fantasy element of Bond most anyway, especially the exotic, exaggerated female characters, even the cheesy ones, that populate the Broz Bond-verse. But what makes all of the Broz films, most hard to watch is Broz himself. Sean alas, it seems, set the bar way too high, but Eon could try harder in their casting, to find more Sean-like Bonds. We soldier on. The Craig era must now be endured, until such time as we can again consider, a worthy successor to Sean. Hope springs eternal. |

| You're usually one to support Richards as Jones, Tiff, aren't you? - Salome wrote:

Understandable about Richards, but she isn't in it for long, really. Pops in at around the one hour mark, like Pussy Galore in GF, and after that, she's not really prominent at all throughout, until the end. And M's subplot I think is great. We get to see her do a bit more, without it revolving around trust issues with Bond. Plus, her relationship with the Kings adds another layer of tension. Her involvement is akin to M in the literary MR, who asks Bond to do a personal favour for him, only to blow up into something more. However, M is entangled into this one personally, as opposed to M only being acquaintances with Drax. |

| A VIEW TO A KILL :3*:
Sometimes it's close to being my favorite, sometimes it's not. I love Roger Moore, but he's just too old for the role in this film, and it shows. It impacts the energy and momentum of the movie, not to mention that there are simply too many senior citizens in a movie that's not a sequel to COCOON. Because Roger is clearly too old for the role, the stunt doubling is the wurst I've seen in any Bond film. Even Moore's close-ups in his fight scenes lack energy.
Basically Grace Jones and Christopher Walken carry the film.
Other notes of interest: why doesn't Bond just turn on the fire hose and wet the elevator shaft (and Stacy) down instead of using the hose to pull her up? Wouldn't it have made more sense to put out the fire in their immediate area? And how did the fire captain manage to get to Howe's office and retrieve the gun but not stumble across Bond and Stacy in need of help? They were only 20 feet from Howe's desk.
Pola Ivanova's big reveal is sort of a wasted opportunity. The impact is mostly muted because the audience doesn't recognize Pola from any previous adventures (would've been a great opportunity to bring Anya Amasova back, if just for a cameo, as was originally considered).
I think the plot is surprisingly strong and interesting, and only really hampered by Robert's horrible acting. And why not just include Sheriff J.W. Pepper as the police captain since it's clear that that is the basis for the San Francisco's captain's role? And it might have made more sense to use Felix Leiter instead of Chuck Lee (or maybe Holly Goodhead), but continuity and story-arcing weren't necessarily something EON seemed interested in back then.
The movie would be better remembered if it had been the introductory film for a new 007 rather than a painful reminder that Moore stayed on one film too long. |

| Despite the age (though I think he aged better than Craig), I think Moore provides a mature performance as Bond. It's miles ahead of his performances in LALD, MR and TSWLM. It's much more grounded.
Anya Amasova would have been a nice little touch, actually. Plus a fitting addition to farewell Moore as Bond. But definitely not Holly Goodhead. Whatever one thinks of Bach's acting, at least there was a sense of femininity and class in her. Chiles was worse than Bach in terms of acting, IMO (shame she's teaching acting - poor students) and Goodhead was just a pretentious feminist. |

| The one thing the film didn't bring out in Fleming's Tatiana was her mortal terror of Klebb. In the novel she was virtually paralyzed by fear of having anything to do with the head of SMERSH Otdel Dva. In the film she was just a bit cheeky in Klebb's presence. But outside of that, no complaints about Tatiana's realization. |

| Think that's because Maibaum/Harwood and Lenya gave EON's Klebb lesbian overtones, whereas in Fleming's novel she's just asexual, IIRC. Also important to note that they played up the humour and absurdity of the character. |
