Random Bond Trivia

I thought it might be interesting to maintain a thread of random Bond trivia. Interesting facts. Just toss them into the thread willy nilly. Maybe we could number them for easy reference.
i.e., number the initial entry, but not comments that might follow.

1. Actor Anthony Chinn
I'll start with this little blurb that I found on you-tube comments section in reference to the mysterious Korean chap that briefly appears behind GF's left shoulder, as GF, gun in hand, addresses Bond, as he emerges from the cockpit of the plane, which is taking Bond to the White House for lunch with the President.
I had not realized this Anthony Chinn actor had been so busy in the Bond movies, appearing in 4 films total.
"Upon further inspection of the scene, I think I can say, for certain, that the fellow is the Korean guard who served mint juleps on Goldfinger's ranch, played by Anthony Chinn, who also appeared in "Dr. No" (as the decontamination technician), "You Only Live Twice" (as the poor sack who pulled the levers in Blofeld's volcano and was killed by Bond's cigarette gun), and "A View to a Kill" (as Zorin's potential backer who gets dropped out of the airship into San Francisco Bay)."

This is real interesting.



2. Ian Fleming appearance in FRWL? Dan Gale presents fairly strong evidence that the mystery man with with the cane, wearing white, might indeed be Fleming.

Yes, I watched a few of these a while ago. The Fleming one freaked me out a bit. He just stands there...

3. Throughout his 7 Bonds, Roger Moore never actually orders a Vodka Martini himself.

I've heard of the Fleming cameo urban legend. Personally, I don't think it's him.

Does anyone here have FRWL on Blu-Ray? Perhaps we could get a screenshot of the scene and look at it a bit closer.

Dan Gale suggests it might be Fleming in the film, because of the photo of Fleming visiting the set, sporting - a white "jumper" and a cane. Hmmm :scratch: And I'll add that Fleming is perched on the front of the train in the photo and then the guy that looks just like him, turns up standing by the train in the film.

Interesting, will keep an eye out for that. He does look like he "gives a damn", how it's made though.

True, and the funny thing is that he ordered it, but in a non-Bond tv series.

This was originally done to distance Moore's portrayal from Connery's. Hence the bourbon order in LALD, the white tuxedos instead of black, cigars instead of cigarettes (though this was primarily due to Moore's preference) etc.

Just recently realized this one: Of all the films only two do not feature a helicopter: DN and TMWTGG.

At the end of the mid-Noughties crime thriller Layer Cake, Daniel Craig's character is killed by Ben Whishaw ... Bond killed by Q, essentially.

Oops, sorry ... I thought that one was (fairly) common knowledge.

To my knowledge, Moonraker is the only Bond film where Bond doesn't fire his trusty Walther handgun, be it a PPK or P99.

When I was younger, I always thought skiing, diving and gambling were essential ingredients in Bond films. Gambling more so, as it's part of Bond's character. The other two, not as much. However, looking over it now, FYEO is the only Bond film where Bond skis, dives and gambles in the same flick. He:

Gambles:
DN, TB, OHMSS, DAF, FYEO, OP, LTK, GE, CR

Skis:
OHMSS, TSWLM, FYEO, AVTAK, TWINE

Dives:
TB, YOLT, TSWLM, FYEO, AVTAK, LTK, TND, TWINE, DAD

Hence, he:

Gambles and Skis:
OHMSS

Skis and Dives:
TSLWM, AVTAK, TWINE

Dives and Gambles:
TB, LTK

Casino Royale ('06) is the first Bond film in which it rains.

I watched the movie last week, and I can't understand if XXX dies.

In Moonraker, Bond only fires a gun once, that is, when he shoots Hugo Drax's hunting rifle during their little hunting game and eliminates the tree sniper. Other than that, he never fires a gun in Moonraker!

Does he not fire a laser gun aboard the space station?

Hahaha ... typing that has just made me think just how much 'front' Cubby had when he said Moonraker wasn't science fiction, it was science fact.

Apparently, despite being shot at through all of his films, SKYFALL is only the second time Bond has had a gunshot wound. The first time would be in THUNDERBALL, when Janni shoots him in the leg.

He actually does not! Next time you watch Moonraker, look for it in the space station battle, and you'll find that it's just not there! I would have assumed the same thing myself, but after I looked for it, I realized that he doesn't even fire a laser gun. If for some reason I am wrong about this, than I can at least tell you that what I mentioned earlier is the only time Bond fires an actual bullet-firing weapon in Moonraker.

Could've sworn I remembered him 'zapping' 2 of Drax's 'staff' with one when they were on a walkway above him ... it is quite some time since I last watched MR, though.

According to my memory, Bond and Jaws go about fighting Drax's guards hand to hand, while Holly grabs a laser pistol and zaps the guards above them.
