| Ugh, but still. My girlfriend stopped watching Star Trek on TV because of the CGI effects and only sees it when she comes over and watches my DVDs and actively complains about it -- and the only Trek movies she's ever seen are X and XI (on her own) and I and II (with me). |

| Sounds like a keeper to me.
I'll definitely lend her the Director's Cut of I and maybe II when she finishes the show. The former has grown on me particularly because of the sound mix and I've become more tolerant of the shortening of Goldsmith's score given the trimming. |

| I really like the Director's Edition of I. It's one of the few cases of redone effects that I like, because for the most part they blend seemlessly with the originals. As for the cut itself, it probably has the best pacing of all the versions, the best balance. My only objection to it is cutting Decker's line "We all create God in our own image" -- that really should've stayed. |

| I agree, still some additional dialogue added was a bonus. "How do we know about any of us?" |

| I won't watch the theatrical because it doesnt have sickbay or weep for V'Ger and without those there is no movie in my mind. |

The sickbay scene is in the theatrical, in fact the Director's Cut trimmed it cutting off right after Kirk tells Chapel he wants Spock back on the bridge. It's just him basically repeating what Spock told him but in true Kirk dramatic fashion. "A machine... planet. Sending another machine... to find... its... creator... That's.... INCREDIBLE!" and some other bits I forget. But yeah, no weeping in theatrical. |

| I grew up with the TV version, because thats what was on VHS, which is basically like ALL the footage, incuding tons of redundant or silly dialogue scenes. |

Gag me! It's just so... fake looking. Sometimes I forget that there's supposed to be a window right above the bridge ceiling but we never actually see it from inside. Just Picard's ship instead. |

| It's one of those bizarre things left over from the script battle between Roddenberry and Livingston that gives the film a bit of a Frankenstein Monster feel -- not to mention its status as originay having been a series pilot. As a series regular, more detail would've been fleshed out about Ilia and her race, empaths whose society treats sex like a handshake. |

See, I grew up with the widescreen VHS (along with V and VI) and that was the theatrical cut since they couldn't use certain extended footage because matte backrounds were never made such as when we see Kirk leaving the Enterprise in his space suit (which didn't even match what we later saw him in). |

I believe the closest we've ever come to seeing the bridge ceiling in TOS is this shot from the second pilot: *EDIT: Careful mixing up that quote and edit button, MP!

| Rare shot, forgot of that. I always assumed there was a sort of window given that the top of the bridge is always lit up suggesting such. |
