Re Houston's reputed $100M fortune, it's interesting how she chose to spend it on consuming as much crack as possible, while some others with wealth use their money for more serious ends. (In Paul Allen's case, the commercial exploration of space.) Bizarre species, humans. I'm glad I'm not one.

I'm a bit surprised she didn't die bankrupt, or close to it.

I thought she did? I suppose it's all speculation at this point.

Trust me, we'll see those cliches. I've already been seeing them. It happens with almost everyone who dies famous and somewhat young. The truth is she was a lifelong crackhead and was probably never going to get any better because she surrounded herself with fellow lowlifes.

I'm sorry, but I have no tolerance, sympathy or patience for people who willingly choose drugs and throw away an entire life and natural talent in order to chase the brown tiger and a little booger sugar.

When I saw on the tv Saturday night that she'd been found dead, I was surprised for all of about 2 seconds, then I remember: 'Yep, that was Whitney. We all knew this day was coming.' Her descent was one of the most startling implosions I have ever seen for a person who did not appear to have had any major trauma or life-changing experiences that would cause someone to turn to drugs. She was raised in a church. She was a beautiful woman. Had access to millions of dollars and powerful people and she threw it all away.

Those eyes could have also been stressed out from all the publicity she got that night. She'd just won a Grammy; I'm sure she was tired.

I can't say I ever was a huge fan of Houston's music, but it's hard to argue against the fact that she had a truly exceptional voice (until her lifestyle choices destroyed even that).
