Oh yes indeedy, Johnny Cash did. I love his work but TB sounds like, er, a Western. Hang a tick....
there's three of these videos featuring all the rejected Bond songs. I heard the Newley Goldfinger on a radio docu about Barry and it made my skin itch. Sounds like it should be lounging on a piano in Vegas after night.
Fascinating to see or hear these rejected ones all the same.

I'll have to give that a listen a little later.
Making my way through your Dalton era video... The placement of the Vantage in the shot is perfect.

Thanks. Some of this editing is sometimes quite accidental.
I was editing my TLD run-through. Need to find a way of lighting these things better after dark, the images look fuzzy.

That is an attractive proposition, Blunty. I could see Fiona in a gunslinger outfit. Connery has a hat to cover his hair...Ahem.
I'll check the videos above out in due course.
I did my TLD runthrough. 'Out' Friday coming.

Thunderball as a weshtern, you shay?
On another note, this video has been circulating lately. It concerns itself with continuity in the Bond films. It's problematic to say the least but it might make for a fresh way of watching the films for some. I'm sure Dench heading up a station after leading the whole of MI6 would be a demotion. Probably warranted after promoting Craig Bond as a 00, though...

Connery did dip his toe into those waters with Shalako of course, but Wikipedia informs me it wasn't a hit. Maybe with YOLT only having been released the year before he was still too associated with Bond in the public's mind.

I tried giving it a watch, especially since it reunites Honor Blackman with Connery, but it was a struggle. I was pretty young, however.
Curious pairing of Connery and Bardot... The rumoured Mr and Mrs James Bond had he appeared in OHMSS, no?

Watched this, this afternoon Boots. Quite informative and fascinating. I never dabbled in laserdiscs but love the covers of them, found myself wishing if only the DVD releases had some of these covers. Like your set-up technically speaking. Thumbs up this side of the Pond.

Many thanks! LDs become a bit of a must with you if you start to dabble in them. One winds up learning all about film and video tech histories and how films have looked over time. Many transfers still hold up and benefit from the lack of futzing about for the most part. The quality difference between LDs and VHS apes back in the day is like comparing VHS to DVD since the resolution is so close to DVD. The covers and art of the format are without equal even when the design scheme maybe hasn't aged as well such as the Evergreens or the USA "BOND" letterbox releases. What's got me hooked for life are the untouched soundtracks which sound better than anything. That and I get discs for cheap since I'm one of the few nuts collecting such an obsolete format... I've seen PAL discs that can look quite nice so if you ever see a player for cheap on your side maybe check it out if you like analog video formats of the past.

The Special Edition DVDs had an excellent trailer and individual menus. I used to love those DVDs. Got rid of them when I upgraded to the Ultimate Collection.

The individual menus were great, as opposed to the more generic ones that came later.
The last decent menu was the one for QOS, which actually utilized the same unique graphics by MK12 so that it looks like you're accessing MI6 confidential files. I'd complain about SF and SP having lazy menus, however it's a problem that's prevalent throughout ALL of home media with few exceptions. Nobody is putting in the work on fun interactive menus anymore because physical media is slowly dying and studios are cutting corners. DVDs of the 2000s were really the peak of interactive menus. I miss those days.

Yes, I quite liked the QOS menu page, especially with Night at the Opera playing in the background. But the early 2000s, as you say, were the pinnacle. I can still hear Moby's Bond theme kick in after you activated the menu for TND.
I've heard the desire for the material is undergoing some kind of revival as the likes of Netflix just don't have enough classics/pre-1970s films in their catalogue. DVD shops in Oz apparently have seen a surge in rentals/purchases of up to 25%. I really hope it's a sign that DVDs will stick around.

those would be the ones I have. Came in a nondescript grey box with the 007 logo. Picked it quite cheap but those menus as you say were great.

When it says 'and so much more', cuts to Brosnan's line and transitions into the Bond theme with the montage of Bond ordering a martini...
Don't think there's been any official montage as effective as that since. Not the Bond 50 Oscar celebrations, on newer DVD releases... Only some of the fan versions rival it.

The best of the video promos was the 1995 USA short minute long trailer attached to the VHS relaunch tapes in the first wave of reissues tied in to promote GE.
The SE DVD menus are indeed great and each is individual. The UE menus were a nice idea but it got tiring to sit through all the sub menus.

Never seen that one. I was waiting for Brosnan to pop up though but then obviously it was pre-GE.
Yeah the UE menus are fine. Best part is when the title expands in the centre of the screen with the movie-specific theme in the background.

That said, I'm hoping someone like LaLaLand gets to put out a complete soundtrack of Eric Serra's GE score for the 25th anniversary. There's never a more perfect time. Given that we know that Serra was upset with how EON used his score on the final cut, leaving out several cues altogether like "A Pleasant Drive in St. Petersburg" and "The Scale to Hell" in favor of reusing other cues, makes me wonder if there's even more unused material that we've yet to hear.

Nice! It makes sense for LaLa to release GE's score this year, but I'm hoping for the TND CD more.

TND would be the icing on the cake. Proper versions of the latter tracks (final quarter of the film) and so on.

It'd be amazing if they did either one-however I'd hope first we could get ones more in need of it like DN, TSWLM, MR, LTK.
GE has a great original CD with most of the score and TND has both the isolated music track on video and the two CD releases which gets you most of the score though the Chapter 1 second score CD with all the second half music is very rare these days. Took me years to find one.

There's only really one track from DN and TSWLM that I'd love to have on disc, and a handful from LTK (the casino music, for example). But there are so many cues from TND that I'd like, such as the plane cue from the PTS, Bond's final escape from Carver's factory and the party music.
And then also to hear any alternate versions which has been one of the greatest highlights of the TWINE/DAD releases. Especially if there are cues with Surrender weaved throughout.
