Harry Potter

So Harry Potter - if I had to pick a book series that has defined a part of my childhood it would be this one. I love it - absolutely love the Potter series to bits. It's a series that grows with you and JK Rowling has written a superb series for children, teenagers and adults. Words cannot simply describe my love for it.

And this is while I am immensly excited to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, I cannot help but be sad that this crazy thing is all coming to an end.

That and I wanted to post the trailer - which looks so awesome.



On a general films note (which I will be rewatching), some are better than others but I really feel DH1 stepped up to the plate so it'll be interesting to see how Part2 shapes up.

Anyone else excited?

Sorry Fae, haven't read any of the books nor seen any of the movies and that isn't likely to change any time soon.

I'm excited. Like the Faester I grew up with the Harry Potter books and films, each one's been an event (besides the 6th movie, which I never got around to seeing at the cinemas), and I cant wait for the big finale.

And having just watched that trailer, besides my usual skepticism about Voldemort being camp, plus my dread at seeing the Bellatrix/Mrs Weasley confrontation and the part where he starts calling Voldemort "Riddle" and "Tom" put to screen.... looks awesome.

Well if you were to start, read the books.

They are the best. :) they aren't the greatest works of literature but JK Rowling does weave a good story - and the best thing is that everything counts. Everything connects in the end.

The films are good - but not a true representation of the true magic of Potter.

Awesome - I reckon I'm going to try and go to the Midnight Screening ... I can still remember when part1 came out and I wasn't seeing it until the Saturday and some people were like 'you are waiting this long to see it?'

So I'll be trying to get into a midnight screening.

Yeah, I got into an advance screening of the first one with our dearly missed expert in FourDot. That was epic.

God Voldemort looks effeminate. Can't even cut his nails.

Watched the latest one the other day when I was bored. The script for was horrendous, sorry . No idea if it was the source material or not.

I personally thought DH1 was the best adapted. I think it's biggest strength was the locations. Everything was really exactly as I pictured it while reading the books which is unheard of.

The books aren't literary marvels and the films are hit and miss, but they tell a darn good entertaining story.

Sorry, but I can't stand this kid shit. I think I'd rather sit through the next "Transformers" flick, in all honesty.

I enjoyed the books in my childhood but I don't think I'll ever read them again.

The movies have always ranged from awful to mediocre apart from DH1 and POA which were good but not great adaptations.

Ironically I was completely oblivious to the Harry Potter films and novels (except the first one) when I was younger, as they weren't considered cool at all by most peeps in school. Only after being dragged to see the sixth film did I begin to explore the rest of the films - and I wasn't one bit ashamed of enjoying them. The first, third, and seventh are especially admirable. Harry Potter is nowhere near the pinnacle of cinema, but it's undoubtedly one of the better movie series, especially in comparison to that never-ending wave of American comic book movies.

That said, the new trailer doesn't excite so much. It's just a bunch of confrontations.

^GG, well that is really what the second half of the book was. The battle of Hogwarts, the break-in etc. Its going to be one of the most action based films because of that.

I agree with that completely.

Harry Potter is just fun - it entertains and its an all-consuming journey.

My dad is super excited for the last one as well - we used to have comps between the two of us over who could read the books quicker. :)

I read numbers 5, 6 and 7 each in one go, the days they came out. Beat that.

Though as far as pure movie magic goes, the first one reigns supreme for me. Though in pure enjoyment value, the third one (as with the book) is a cracker - it just gets the right balance of the young magic of the first 2 and older wizardry of the later 4. Near perfection, that one.

I loved HP books back in early elementary school, but now they seem too "mainstream" for my taste. And from the films I only like the first three ones and especially the Columbus ones, because of their naive, colourful and, undoubtly ( :roll: ), magical atmosphere. The rest: I just give a meh, I haven't even seen any of the newer ones since Goblet of Fire.

I've never understood why that should be a requirement for not liking something. Reminds me off all the try hard Indie kids that you see everywhere.

I would defs say give DH1 a watch - and the others. They aren't so innocent anymore but neither are the books so I feel like its a natural progression. Besides Dh1 is the first one in ages that I've loved to bits.

I was actually watching it this afternoon.

I'll probably get around to watching the 6th and 7.1th films at some stage. I think the films and novels make up such a part of my childhood that it is impossible for me to view them without the childish affection that I have towards them. I will say, however, that Prisoner of Azkaban is the most accomplished out of the lot, even though my loyalty goes towards the first two.

I saw the midnight screening of the last and final Potter film. I have to say it was really well done and everything but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. It just .... I dunno lacked something. Still a brilliant adpation and I suppose I merely set my hopes to high whilst with Part 1 my hopes werent as high.

I suppose another part was how the ruined some canon in it ... minor, minor parts but it annoyed me.
