That ending was so perfect.
"It was me, James. The author of all your PAIN."
Lastly, this treasure. Gotta love this.

This is great. At least then it might not have such a prominent 'personal' angle!

How were there no personal angles in those, aside from TND (and even that had a brief thing with Paris)?

GE started off as Bond acting on a hunch with Xenia. Even when he finds out Janus is a Cossack and Janus is 006, it was still about the mission which is what also pissed Alec off. TWINE was initially about Bond protecting Elektra as a favour to M - not Bond - and stopping Renard from another attack.
Unlike QOS, SF and now SP, which each start out with Bond getting revenge on Vesper, needing to prove himself due to age, and now a cryptic message from Bond's past which sees him (briefly) go rogue.

I find it odd that you're brushing off some pretty important aspects of what GE and TWINE were going for. This is where Mike and Babs have been steering this ship since long ago.

Alec and Elektra aren't Tracy or Vesper though, and don't harken back to Bond's past. Plus both of those adventures started with the mission as the priority, and not by Bond's personal feelings and ability.

Er, Alec was part of Bond's past.

Right. All I've been saying is that those stories had personal angles for Bond, whether they started out that way or not.

I never image Pierce Brosnan as Bond at all. I never can in him The Living Daylight where he lost to Timothy Dalton & Casino Royale where he out of the running. I was glad he did not replace Roger Moore as Bond. If Bond 17 was done in 1991 or 92 for the 30th Anniversary, With Timothy Dalton continuing as 007. From there to 1997. No way Brosnan would never been Bond. I wish that.
