At this point I suspect a black Bond would bring a lot more hype than another white guy. Less about being PC and more about bringing insane publicity. There is no question it would be virtue signalling. I'm sure Babs feels vibrations in her nether regions when thinking about all of the so-called "social justice" accolades that would come pouring in after "breaking another barrier." That alone might be sufficient motivation for her to make the fateful leap.

Assuming EON does hand off Bond to someone else after B25 as rumored, I'm sure someone else will be as eager to go that route. It's inevitable.

I think Nolan is sensible enough not violate Fleming's creation. But you never know...

The man most mooted for this idea (Idris Elba) would be almost 50 when making his debut ... I don't see it. The part is a very different beast physically from when Moore was able to start playing it at 45.

Plus he ruled it out himself in an interview, saying that he would just want to be 'the next Bond' instead of 'the first black one' but he knows that wouldn't happen.

It wouldn't be virtue signaling if it's Idris Elba, who is much more of a James Bond than some of the other candidates who are often touted.

Racial identity is an essential thing and Bond is white. Period. Casting a non-white as Bond would be just as preposterous as casting a woman or making Bond openly gay. It's a total non-starter.

Every single Bond actor has had a different look. None of them truly conform to the novel character. I guess Timothy Dalton came closest.
I find it arbitrary to draw the line at skin color as the one feature that cannot possibly deviate from the books.
