So Bond fucked them, right? unbelievable. If Babs was producing Transformers she'd get rid of the robots. You know as well as I do, that Bond ran out on Solange and wanted nothing to do with Olga - as if he was repelled by her. Craig has an average conquest score of 1 per film. I knew a bloke who said he'd only scored with 3.3 women. I'm still curious what that decimal represents. My bets are on transexual or Carey Mulligan. |

| If we do stats for number of times Bond rises out of the sea in Speedos, then dances to The Weather Girls It's Raining Men, then Craig's your boy. |

| Watched TWINE Friday night. Meh. One thing that did occur to me is that the film is roughly halfway though before Christmas makes hear dreadful presence felt. |

| Last time I watched DAD, it wasn't so bad. Certainly not the boogie-monster I had built it up to be. Better than TND and TWINE, at least. |

Not sure I can bring myself to do it. From the moment Jinx opened her mouth I found DAD to be flabbergastingly awful. Still, I suppose it might be an interesting experiment to see if my attitude toward the film has mellowed any at all. |

| DAD is no masterpiece, but Brosnan's bad reputation has more to do with the fanboys' need to crown Craig than anything else.
Humour eases the pain so better DAD than CR or QoS. |

I tend to agree here, Brosnan also gets the blame for a lack of consistency in direction for his character, something eon quietly changed for DC without having to really admit what is probably all their own mistake in the first place. - Erica Ambler wrote:

Hmm in terms of Moore and MR this holds true, but I can't shake the impression they somehow expected DAD be taken seriously. |

| Well DaD got another view last night, and it's not aged too badly, though still rumbles near the bottom of Bond. 5/10 but a 5/10 flim you can still enjoy. |

| GE last night. This film captures a certain Cold War afterglow, which makes it reminiscent of a 60s Bond film. But it also possesses much of the overblown outrageousness of 70s Bond films. It's a good combination.
Natalya may be the perfect Bond girl, too. Sexy, gorgeous and charming, she gives Tracy a run for the money. She and Broz also had tremendous chemistry. Comparable to Kara and Bond.
Serra's minimalistic, echoey, metallic score is also quite good.
The action is perfect in this one. The ratio of action to other stuff is ideal and GE's action sequences manage to be riveting and entertaining rather than the dull filler we see in Broz's other efforts.
All in all, this is a gem of a Bond film. Currently No.2 in my ranking. |

| In honour of the late Colonel Ghaddafi, I decided to watch The Man with the Golden Gun. It's a decent follow-up to LALD and better paced, however, like in all other Guy Hamilton Bond films, a lot of focus is lost in the middle half. The Bond vs. Scaramanga dynamic is the saving grace of this adventure. The two Swedish Bond girls look delicious... Moore must've enjoyed the bedroom scenes.

Meh. Natalya's certainly lovely but Dalton's Bond/Kara's chemistry easily beats Brosnan's Bond/Natalya's IMHO. As for the last Bond movie I watched: Watched it in widescreen, HDTV. To paraphrase the film's advertising campaign slogan, it's the ONLY way to watch YOLT. ;) |

| @Khan looking forward to seeing YOLT in HD when I finally get the chance (where are those blu-rays!!)
Anyways a film I do have in hd and has been brought to mind with the Skyfall announcement is ......
The World is not Enough
I do enjoy this one even with its, imo, inappropriate emo bias and that Denise Richards=scientist paradox. Brosnan seems more relaxed and playing to his own style here, its a more jaded and older Bond perhaps but the production has a lush feel to it, the locations are interesting (if underused - there is a lot of studio work), and Marceau and to a lesser degree Carlysle make for interesting foils. Still sad to see Desmond Llwellyn's last appearence and the vaguely haunting 'always have an escape plan' but it was nice to have a bit of genuine emotion and recognition from Bond in this instance. Denise Richards may not fool anyone as a nulear physicist but she does makes a great wet t-shirt.
7/10 from me.
Watching it over again does evoke the Skyfall conference.....

It's definitely a vision and this was only the SE DVD version. I bet it's even better in the UE. I watched it on a widescreen TV. Probably the best way to watch it outside of seeing it on a huge theater screen. I consider YOLT to be the most beautifully photographed film in the series thanks to Freddie Young. |

TWINE is basically a poor man's CR. This became especially clear to me after the 2006 Bond film was released. Essentially, EON tried to mix OHMSS with AVTAK(far from the most compatible combination). The best thing about TWINE is it showed EON how not to make CR. |

Not exactly. CR still contains a lot of leftovers of TWINE and the Brosnan era. |

| That CASINO ROYALE carries some of the spirit of the Brosnan era is not surprising. It is born out of many of the same impulses. It is nevertheless an immense improvement on its forebears (though I know you disagree re: GOLDENEYE).
TWINE was actually the last Bond film I watched. Not sure why; perhaps because I've spent a bit of time feeling nostalgic for the late 90s/early Aughts. It's a pretty inept film, through and through, but I did walk away feeling kinder towards Arnold's score. It's decent, even if it's a bit too solemn some of the time (but it's really just following after what's on screen). |

Likewise caught TWINE most recently though I clearly found it more agreeable than yourself, but I do feel it's responsible for infecting and tainting everything we've seen since. imo The only real saving grace for CR is the material that is taken from Fleming and any realtive appreciation of Craig as opposed to Brosnan, those have a counter in that solemn, wallowing and introverted and a perchant for generic action is now inflicted upon a story that really didn't need any such 'help' to sell itself. |
