Music editor Tony Lewis is tweeting that the score is being recorded right now at Abbey Road.

Another great day at @AbbeyRoad - we're so close now you can almost touch it. #SKYFALL

@andyhopkins1 @abbeyroad sadly not - NDA's forbid me - all I can say is that it's ace.

@andyhopkins1@MusicEditorcouk @abbeyroad that much I'd expect, imagine he's kept his own personality in there in a fab way. Will just have to go see it!

Interesting. So, we'll probably get samples in mid-October?

Photo from the recording sessions.
My attempt at naming the players (made easier by the fact that most of 'em here did the last couple of Bonds). All first-rate session musicians.
From left to right:
Trumpets: Derek Watkins (only half of him visible, but since he's done the screaming trumpet on practically every Bond score, he's gotta be here), John Barclay, Andy Crowley, not sure who the woman is.
Trombones: can make out Mark Nightingale (second to left), though not the other three.
Tuba: ?
My best guess is that Newman's brought in a few of the musicians he usually records with, along with the Bond veterans.
Interesting fact::4 trumpets instead of Arnold's 3, which is one step closer to Barry's brass set-up.

I guess the horns weren't important enough to make it into the photo with the rest of the brass, eh Sharky?
I'm digging' the 4 trumpet set-up. Makes you think that Newman is going for a denser sound for the brass (although, I can't tell from the photo if there's a bass trombone in there or not).

In some way I'm more keen on hearing the score than seeing the movie.
Can't be as bad as what's preceded it.

For the record, the guitarist and bassist are usually seated next to the strings, not the brass.

Just saw that Helen Mirren movie THE DEBT and very much enjoyed the score, which I felt had a quality I hadn't heard since Paul Newman and Tom Hanks sat at a piano in ROAD TO PERDITION. Oddly enough, it was another Thomas Newman score.
It was really unusual, compelling and ... I couldn't imagine it fitting into any Bond movie I've ever seen. Well, maybe a minute or two in LTK, just maybe.

I had an experience like that when I watched Robert Altman's THE PLAYER about three weeks ago. Fine black comic farce (what the happened to Greta Scacchi?). But the thing that stuck out the most was the offbeat, strangely compelling score. I'd no clue who did it, until I rewound to the opening tracking shot credits and saw it was it Thomas Newman. My faith in SKYFALL's score shot up tenfold.
I like what one Youtube poster said.
Quote :
This is such a fascinating and bizarre soundscape, an impossible blend of noir, tribal themes, jazz, samba, blockbuster film soundtracks. It's so dreamy, but unpredictable and dangerous, and was vital for making such a preposterous film work.

Greta had some really striking qualities, and was a dead ringer for the woman I lived with 86-90. Shopping in a video store, my girlfriend would turn the cover of A MAN IN LOVE around backwards because people would see it and then look at her strangely, and even my stepdad asked me decidedly weird questions about her after he saw WHITE MISCHIEF.
It was very strange because my GF did not photograph like Greta at all -- it was like the soul (if there was one) disappeared when an attempt was made to capture it on film (Super 8 AND 35mm.)
Greta really blew my mind in COCA COLA KID, but something weird happened to her skin or her makeup in PRESUMED INNOCENT. Last thing I saw her in was that Alan Rickman cable movie on Rasputin, must have been 15 years ago or so.

it fits the 'electronic, melancholic, TLD-like' descrip in the other thread mentioning Adele.
If this were in the film, I'd be happy.

It screams videogame music to me. It's probably from 007 LEGENDS.

Hm. Hard to say. Would be a bit of a let-down if it is, since it sounds very Arnold-y.
