| For like 7 bucks. I needed a new RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY, and it was half the price with these other movies. None of the others look too interesting, though. Wish HIGH COUNTRY had been packaged with these... ...There's Andre De Toth stuff in there. I do love Warners for putting out these combo packs. |

| Only de Toth picture I've seen is Crime Wave which, of course, is stellar. Was tempted to grab Day of the Outlaw today - any thoughts on it?
Did pick up the Blu-ray of Brighton Rock on impulse though. Haven't seen it for a while, keen to revisit it, and I remember being impressed by the caps on Beaver a few months back. Was going to watch it tonight but I think I'll hold off on it. Gonna check Amazon and maybe order in the new Blus of It Always Rains on Sunday, Odd Man Out, and the Kino They Made Me a Fugitive and make a mini-marathon of it. A quartet of minor masterpieces, all from 1947 (which also saw the release of Black Narcissus - what a fucking year for British cinema!) and I know Odd Man Out and They Made Me a Fugitive are high quality discs. |

Ain't seen it, but I like CRIME WAVE. My DVD has a terrific commentary with noir expert Eddie Muller and the always hilarious James Mother Fucking Ellroy. |

| 5 Februay 2013 Quantum Leap All 5 seasons: Season 1 is a digipack Season 2 digistack like i have Season 2 of The A-team for example. Season 3, 4 and 5 are slimcases Special Unboxing Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1M1o_hnxkc 7 February: Bad Teacher Special Edition 11 February: Source Code, 2012 and Magnum P.I. Season 1 12 February: The Champions (1968-1969), all 30 episodes in 2 Volumes. Video of all this what i bought in February: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZv4WDTjExw Iam not familier with this Spy series, mabey Saint Mark are. The Australian release who are Regio Free include Audiocommentary and documentry but no Dutch subtitels. Those 2 boxset i bought not include extra's, but are released in limited digipack. Every of the 3 disc's of each volume have 5 episodes but the video and audio quality is even (draw) if not better as The Saint box. Dutch Film Works proofs again that there should release The Saint Season 3 and Season 4 (32 episodes). Limelight Pictures i whas very happy with them release season 1 and 2 but there rejected to release more. If DFW can make a 2 sets of 3 disc's digipack of The Champions then there also can make 2 sets of 4 disc's digipack of The Saint is my opinon. |

| Didn't buy it, because it's not on DVD, but a friend of mine got me a copy of LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR. He's directing a show I'm in and was dumping candy on a table for the cast. There were Mr. Goodbars and I mentioned the name of the film. Anyway, he got me a copy. It's widescreen, but smushed to 1.33. So I gotta get some software to unsmush it. |

| Yep, it's an addiction to be honest. The covers for this series are odd when seen this way but when in hand they are a mixture of artist work and film stills and not so bad. The gatefolds are filled with all kinds of pretty publicity and film stills.
I got into LDs because I always liked the format and wanted to get away from the Lowry messes but the SE discs usually had only remixed audio. Then I stumbled across an older MGM box version of DN-FRWL-GF and that was it. Not only do you get something akin to the original presentation but the audio is lossless and usually from master material. I'm a very small minority on this but after doing far too much research and way too much viewing, I prefer the films on LD, far more so than Blu-ray. I no longer have to put up with horrid color timing shifts, grain removal, audio remixes, low mono bitrates so for me I'm happy with...wait for it...420i. I hope to one day combine several sources for an ultimate version with audio and picture correctly intact. Audio fidelity is incredible on some of them; AVTAK, TLD, GE alone are worth having a player. Moonraker sounded incredible last night at full blast in it's original decoded 4 channel configuration. The score sounded better in places than the album!
You'd really be surprised how good some of these can be. It's like a cross between a proper enthusiast format with letterboxing and lossless original audio and the VHS days of childhood.
Bond on video is my favorite collectable. I just realized with about 11 LDs and 3 box sets I still need 17 more. Told you it was an obsession. Sadly the original recalled Criterion editions never come cheap. |

| Finally got around to putting in my order for Skyfall on DVD. In addition I ordered that 3 disc collectors edition of Casino Royale.
I already have Casino Royale on DVD, I actually got it as a gift for my birthday when it originally came out. Unfortunately, the greatest tragedy occurred and the person who got it for me picked up the Full Screen version. I figured it was time to stop being lazy and finally pick it up on Widescreen. |
