| Releasing Skyfall on November 2 globally does seem like it would be the brighter decision. |

| According to IMDB.com, MGM is involved with Red Dawn, which has the Nov. 2 slot.
According to this:
http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2012/RDAWN.php
The movie is actually being distributed by a company called Open Road (then again, Sony is actually distributing Skyfall). MGM seems to have gone out of the distribution business (at least for now).
Meanwhile, a number of posters at this thread say Skyfall won't be afffected by the Twilight movie:

Having seen nothing, not even a single frame or trailer of RED DAWN, it's hard to say what it's chances are. Even though Chris Hemsworth will be starring in it, once word gets around that it's been on the shelves for several years regardless of reason, the film will probably do poorly. Hemsworth *MAY* become a star between now and then (I don't know yet whether he's just a good actor in a couple of hit movies, or whether he will transcend Thor and become a huge star in his own right) and if RED DAWN opens big, they can probably thank Hemsworth for the box office boost. I'd certainly play him up as the star. Bond's biggest threat is not from teenage vampires or dancing penguins, but from Babs Broccoli. I'm more worried about what she may be doing to the series than what a cackle of pre-pubescent girls thinks, or doesn't think, about 007. |

| I never understood staggered releases for films. Seems to me that it dramatically increases the chance of piracy.
Sony better market the HELL out of Skyfall. I don't think that could be said enough. 2012 is a huge year for blockbusters, with The Avengers performing incredibly well so far and The Amazing Spiderman, Dark Knight, and Breaking Dawn expected to be huge as well. Hopefully Sony is prepared for some huge competition and really play-up the 50th anniversary angle. |

| Well still that last TWilight movie is a sure BO hit and with all the commotion a threat to any publicity for the 23th Bond movie. They might have one week of attention before they get pushed aside by the Twilight madness which I am sure the last installment will be.
Somebody at Sony has been sleeping at the wheel. |

| Bond films are really not as popular in the US as overseas, hasn't really been since the 60s. It'll be a record if Bond could pass 200 million domestically. I think having it open so close to TWILIGHT will hurt it a bit but it should manage to do more or less what the previous films made. QOS was released in the US two weeks after it was in Europe, and it still beat the previous opening records. TWILIGHT shouldn't be underestimated. It's huge among females and of course they drag their boyfriends into the theater so that increases its chances of being a bigger hit than SKYFALL domestically. |

The simplest solution to make Bond a four-quadrant film series is to give Bond a young, male sidekick. A James Bond, Jr., if you will. Make him late teens, early 20's...emo...wearing a hoodie...riding a reverse-engineered skate-board. Maybe sort of be Robin to Daniel Craig's Batman. That would definitely help get the teen and pre-teen female demographic into the theaters to see Bond, and could also set up the younger Bond to continue the series when Craig resigns or is released. This is probably something they should have done with the Q character, but based upon pictures I've seen of Ben Whishaw, I can't imagine any girls getting all hot or bothered over him. A bit too geeky and scrawny in my estimation. |

| The Nov 22 opening for Australia sucks too.
EON still doesn't forgive George Lazenby for quitting the series. |

Why the delay in the USA? Stop complaining. We Australians need to wait another two weeks on top of that. Probably so that some B-list celebrities can have their fifteen minutes of fame attending the premiere. |

| Sony must think Bond is pirate-proof. It did the same thing with QOS. Granted, QOS did have a huge (relatively speaking) opening weekend in North America before bottoming out, so maybe it's on to something, but I have to imagine it would have made more money if it hadn't already been out internationally for two weeks. |

| QOS's opening weekend in the U.S. was $67.5 million but it went down by 60 percent the following week when the first Twilight movie came out. A 50 percent drop is normal, so the drop was a bit steeper than the norm. In the end, Quantum did have slightly higher box office than Casino, but Casino was still ahead in international ticket sales. |
