No. It's one of the most intriguing mysteries about the film.
It's how we might have expected to see Bond after the events of CASINO ROYALE, but not after the events of QUANTUM OF SOLACE (the closing line of which, "I never left", strongly implies that 007 has now found closure regarding the Vesper trauma).
Now, maybe, just maybe (and I'm only floating this as a vague possibility), Mendes doesn't think much of QUANTUM OF SOLACE, regards it as a missed opportunity (and perhaps Craig, Broccoli and Wilson now feel the same way), and views SKYFALL as the real followup to CASINO ROYALE. Hence, QUANTUM OF SOLACE doesn't exist in this Mendes Bondverse, and the way is now clear for him to present a hurting (from the events of CASINO ROYALE) and still-unformed Bond Begins-type 007. Sort of how one can choose to view DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER as a sequel to YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, ignoring ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE.
That would suit me down to ground, I have to say. Much as I loathe this notion, I can see it fitting. All those weird "I knew you were you" type lines in CR that only make sense if James Bond is a known commodity could be explained by some family thing that M knows of. Man I would hate this! Then again, I wanted a QUANTUM followup, Fat chance of that. I do wonder if the word association test was inspired by THE PRISONER. I'm sure Logan has seen the series a few times. |

| Does anyone think Dench's M may be fired, rather than killed? I think that'd be interesting to see.

First shot of Bond in the film? Interesting idea. I'm hoping Bond's intro is paired with a stylish track similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRT-baXhmKA&t=1m6s I was just thinking, isn't this shot a kind homage/self-reference to end of CR's title sequence, with parts of Bond's face in the shadows as he walks towards the camera? http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/pages/CR_0066.htm http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/pages/CR_0067.htm http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/pages/CR_0070.htm http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/pages/CR_0068.htm |

| That shot also looks like that one stagey production photo: http://www.comingsoon.net/gallery/56251/hr_Skyfall_38.jpg
I agree with dr. strangelove - it doesn't look like a shot that would be in the actual movie.
In the meantime, I also do not want a continuation of the origin story. Vesper should be but a fading memory. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Vesper is mentioned during the word assocation exercise. |

| ^ Craig has a Bondian pair of baby blues, they gotta use those to the fullest.
Much like the CR and QOS teasers, there is a main focus at the beginning (the two kills/Mr. White interrogation/Bond's interview) and then a barrage of iconic action shots. And much like CR and QOS, it looks like Skyfall's first third or so will be very eventful: a stunning opener to up the ante on the Madagascar/Siena chases, some grilling by M, the villains making their play (Miami airport/MI6 attack), globetrotting to different ends of Earth to track and ultimately kill a lead (Carlos/Slate/Patrice), fuck around with an exotic and useful brunette (Solange/Severine), and have the first confrontation with the villain (Bregenz/Hashima). Actually, nearly all Bond movies have such a brisk and eventful first half.
We know that Skyfall will be unusual though in that Bond visits the villain's lair in the middle of the film and then the focus shifts to Bond's home turf for the remainder.
While the structure of Skyfall should be fairly predictable by now, it's still amazing how little we know about the plot and the intentions of M, Mallory, Dowar, Kincade, Severine, etc. |

| Two things:
- Apparently the MI6 attack is only a couple of scenes after the titles, before the grilling and training montage. - The lair based on Hashima Island could easily be Turkey. Note the Ottoman architecture in the shot of Bond firing in his black suit/no tie, and the fact that the Turkish yacht appears right after Macau. |

| They would have to re-film it, since SKYFALL's shot in digital and QUANTUM OF SOLACE on Super 35mm film. There's no sign of Jesper Christensen on the cast lists, so I doubt it. |

And he's sworn never to return. Pity, I wanted to see Bond dispatch the bastard. I hate loose ends. It would be cool to hear someone mention Quantum and Mr White has having been smashed. Perhaps M defending Bond to Mallory (if she has to) saying he's the man who took down Quantum. |

| I know EON hasn't as of yet bought into the "Director's Cut" craze, but I wish they'd restore that final scene for a QUANTUM OF SOLACE DVD release. |

| I don't think Quantum would be smashed off-camera after two films had been spent setting them up. If the actor playing White is never to return, it would possibly make perfect sense for Bond's killing of him to appear, maybe in some kind of flashback or as a pre-title sequence prelude. Is it too late in the day to still entertain the possibility of a Quantum mention or even a surprise appearance in Skyfall? Lest we forget that, for the third film running, the villain's surname is that of a colour. Coincidence? Who knows. It would certainly make sense for an efficient terrorist such as Silva to be involved with Quantum.

That's what many thought happened, ala FRWL novel. Here's a description of what occurs in the alternate cliffhanger ending: - Quote :
- A scene showing Mr White's ultimate fate and the identity of his superior was filmed and included in early cuts to conclude the film.
Mentioned in the film as one of the Prime Minister's closest advisors, Guy Haines is also a senior member of the shadowy organisation 'Quantum'. 007 discovers his presence during the Tosca opera scene where Dominic Greene holds a meeting of Quantum members.
The movie was originally intended to end with a one-minute sequence where 007 introduces himself to Mr Haines at his estate, setting up the next adventure. The gun-barrel sequence, uniquely positioned at the end of "Quantum of Solace", would have appeared after Bond dispatches Mr White for good. The scene was shot over one day on location in London on April 14th 2008. So yeah, the ending would have transitioned to the gunbarrel like CR's PTS but since the ending got cut that's when they decided to use a traditional gunbarrel, but still place it at the end. |

Film's a mess. I've been trying to plot my own QOS follow-up, RISICO, the PTS being Bond trying to capture Guy Haines in Oran. *shrug* |

| I would not be surprised if in SF someone mentions one of Bond's accomplishments being he brought down QUANTUM. Or if they just do what Fleming did with SMERSH and just mention they were disbanded. The ultimate reason QOS's ending was deleted was because they didn't want to force the next filmmaker to work on an ongoing story, giving him and the writers more options on how to approach the next film. I'd say it was for the better because I personally prefer QOS's ending with Bond dropping the necklace in the snow. |

That would suit me down to ground, I have to say. Not me. I don't want to see that. I don't want to revisit Vesper. IMHO, that relationship doesn't even come off as well anyway. No thanks to some vomit-bad dialogue about little fingers and armour being stripped away. Vesper is dead, and I say keep her that way. By all means, throw in a reference in this or some future film (like the Tracy references in TSWLM, FYEO, LTK, and TWINE), but for the love of Krishna don't build a film around it.
CR and QOS happened. It's clear that BDSM (Babs, Dan, Sam, and Mickey) don't view QOS too highly (Mendes avoids mentioning it while praising CR), but I don't want this as some "true follow-up". I say it's been years since CR/QOS, and Bond is a bit older and more experienced. No more Bond Begins please. This. The Vesper story ended with Bond dropping the necklace in the snow. He got over it and moved on. It would be like opening the following film with QOS's ending but Bond stops, looks back and picks up the necklace. I don't want the films to back track like that. Heck, CR was supposed to be the end of it too and it could have served as such, even though I like how they handled it in QOS's ending. |

| This video shows the ending of the QoS video game (which features White & Haines), as well as some footage from the film's cut ending - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag4Kq__7ElY&t=25s
I'm pretty certain the cut ending had White kill Haines, then Bond get the drop on White again. |

| Because it's a film, and the laws of physics are relative.
Also, if he was travelling at or about the same speed as the train, the damage on impact would be lessened. |

I'd accept that if this was a Matrix scene, not Bond :face: Although it's good to see a real stuntman in real air and not CGI. |
