| Any 5. Spill your Haterade into this thread.
5 directors I can't stand:
Andy Warhol - In school, I was basically told that I needed to watch and enjoy his films if I ever wanted to be taken seriously. Well, he's a shit director and a shit "artist". He never created an interesting thing in his whole life.
Paul Haggis - For obvious reasons. Keep riding the PC boat until your career sinks with it.
Steve McQueen - Where'd this hack come from anyway?
J.J. Abrams - Poor man's Spielberg. He'd be better off staying as an intern and getting coffee for producers.
Eli Roth - A truly repulsive bonehead with no creativity. Yeah, I think Tarantino and Rodriguez are bad, but their friend Roth is much worse. |

| Well... J.J. Abrams - That's an easy one. Though to be fair, I watched NUTREK yesterday and I have more problems with the script than with Abrams' direction. I even take more issue with his taste in sets (breweries) than how he handles the camera. To his credit he tries to do some interesting shots. As for Paul Haggis? He should have stayed a TV writer. This is still the best thing he's ever done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN5rlTYWCjw#t=5m27s |

I have not seen any of his movies, and I have no interest. I went to a screening of short films made locally a while back and had to suffer through a torture porn movie. I found it disturbing that people enjoy that stuff. And the guy looks like a F***IN' asshole. It's like Ben Stiller and Brad Pitt had a kid: http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/eQuo1vVl0ZH/Coco+Chanel+Igor+Stravinsky+Premiere+2009/0H4TADnzI4T |

| There aren't really any directors I hate, per se, but there are some that annoy me, mostly because they are overrated, especially by fanboys. I like Chris Nolan's films but the fanboys overrate them to such a point that it makes me want to not like them. |

| I feel the same way. Nothing burns me up more than when mindless fanboys say shit like "Nolan can do no wrong."
They obviously didn't see THE PRESTIGE. |

They obviously didn't see THE PRESTIGE. Quote of the day. Tarantino of course and countless others, but a very special hatred towards the modern output of the remaining old guard figures: Lucas, Spielberg, Coppola and especially Scorsese. |

| Nolan's good, I won't call him great but I've liked his work for the most part. It's been a long time since I saw THE PRESTIGE but it was one of my favorites that came out in 2006, I think the last time I saw it was when it came out on DVD. Time to revisit that. |

| Tarantino - someone remove the clapperboard shoved up his arse
Friedkin - arrogant SoB who's been lucky with casting rather than having any actual talent of his own
Spielberg - good ideas but rushes them. Even I see the continuity mistakes.
Lucas - again, some good ideas, but he doesn't think them through, flesh them out, or spend time on them. Or spends far too much time trying to rework what he's already done. One trick pony. |

A bit harsh. :o Only anoraks give a rat's arse about continuity errors. Not that I'd call you one, my love. |

Normally, I'd agree. A lot of the so-called 'continuity mistakes' are probably down to missing scenes anyway. But when something happens that throws me out of the story, that's where I complain. The Jurassic Park scene with the T-Rex attacking the car - the roof's caved in, the roof's not caved in; the door's open; the door's closed - it distracted me from what should have been an exciting scene. Instead, I was thinking, "Hang on - that roof wasn't there a minute ago - we saw him cave it in. And why's that door open when it's shut from inside???" It distracted, and I was no longer in the story. I'm sure I've worn an anorak once. Although it was probably for a bet ;) |

| I don't like George Lucas or JJ Abrams, because I find them both to be charlatans. Lucas clearly just makes things up as he goes, and has some of the worst dialogue I've ever had the misfortune to have heard. As for Abrams, he seems to have made a career for himself out of attaching his name to other peoples' projects, like "Lost".
I'm no fan of Brett Ratner, either. He's clumsy and heavy-handed, and everything he makes seems amateurish. He's apparently a complete arsehole as well.
There is a special place in hell for Ryan Murphy. I admit that I enjoyed "Glee" when it first came out, but it quickly became preachy and Murphy always seemed to be the one running things when the show was at its worst. He then took it upon himself to write and direct an adaptation of EAT PRAY LOVE (yes, I've suffered through it), and he clearly does not understand women nearly as well as he thinks he does.
Sam Raimi. I found the SPIDERMAN films to be silly and garish and clearly expecting the audience to think they were awesome. |

As much as I dislike the guy based on everything I've heard about him, he definitely did have talent, and knew how to marshall it as well. It's hard to reconcile the guy who delivered a horrible cut of THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINSKY'S and then walked away, leaving the editor to reshape the film almost frame by frame, with the guy who did THE EXORCIST and FRENCH CONNECTION and even SORCEROR. I'm still pissed he flaked on THE SHADOW in the mid70s after Harlan Ellison had gotten going on it, though. Have a feeling that could have been terrific. He may have gone all to hell after that (I've only seen TO LIVE AND DIE and THE GUARDIAN and some military crime thing 10-15 years back), but he definitely had something going on in the 70s. Cutting the chase in FRENCH to 'black magic woman' instead of a click-track was pretty ingenious, and the fact he really let the improv build into something special with the leads is an indication he knew what he wanted. |

| Well I'll hold my hand up and say I found French Connection rather dull and boring. Admittedly, I haven't watched all of it, start to finish, but that's because I don't want to watch all of it.
George Lucas treats actors like props. It's not the way to get the best of out them. Friedkin treats them like idiots, if his actions on the set of The Exorcist are anything to go by. If Max Von Sydow despises the man, that's good enough for me. |

| Lucas is certainly utterly clueless when it comes to actors. All he thinks about is machines, which is ironic considering the whole Force/technology thing in the original movies. Or if you look at THX-1138 (in the only version he will let you see because he's a tool). |

| I think in order to say you outright HATE a director, you have to be willing to say you outright hate all of their movies and probably their personality as people as well. Like, people listing Spielberg or Lucas, can you say you hate the man? Or their films? Really? Or are you just jaded and disillusioned and sick of them? Saying you don't particularly care for someone's movies isn't the same as HATING them.
Here are some guys I hate, and whose films I hate.
LARS VON TRIER
GUS VAN SANT
TERENCE MALICK
ATOM EGOYAN
MICHAEL BAY.
Thos are fellas who get outright hate from me, and whose films I never want to see again.

| I can't hate Malick. I've never seen a Van Sant movie that I liked. I hated ELEPHANT. I've only seen a little von Trier, but I'm not too interested in seeing more. |
