| Put me down for neutral.
Unlike with Fairbairne-Sykes, Skyfall did not unseat any of my top ten, so it remains a middle-of-the-packer for me.
What confuses me is Lazenby coming down on the side of the Likes, after he had promised us that Skyfall was going to be the worst excuse for a Bond movie ever. It had it all - bad posters, bad trailers, bad music...what happened?
Say it ain't so, Lazzers! I didn't bother going to see it for weeks, I was so confident that it was going to suck - after all, I had your word for it. After failing to enlighten so many people who'd seen it and said it was good, I finally decided to see for myself what it was that was confusing them.
Okay, so they were dazzled by the cinematography, the cast and their acting, the script, the action and the numerous payoffs, but that doesn't change the fact that the lead-up to the release of the film indicated to those in the know that the film itself was going to suck.
Perhaps if I had never read your comments I would have accepted the opening night tickets I was offered and, naively unaware of the film's innumerable flaws in advance, I - like those I'd tried to set straight - might have enjoyed it more.
Next time I guess I'll ignore the naysayers and make up my own mind after I've seen for myself.
If there is a next time. |

If there is a next time. Such are the 'joys' of the internet ... films are condemned as awful or proclaimed as brilliant from the minute the first few stills and story details become public :suspect: . |

| Lazenby's pre-viewing thoughts on the Mi6 Agents leaked on YouTube is still brilliant and still holds up. I don't quite understand why they did that. |

I don't quite understand why they did that. Fits in with the Hollywood style computer hacking the script embraces with gusto. |

| Joined the Liked It team :) The more I watch it, the more I liked. I'd put the gunbarrel at the beginning and explored Silva's past in a deeper way, plus having the plot holes better explained, but I think it was bloody fantastic! 9.75 out of 10.

| I would have been in the "Like" Camp, but I find that 'like' feeling slowly slipping away. The more time I have to digest it, the more implausible Silva's plan seems, the more idiotic Craig Bond seems in the finale (and pretty much all the good guys for that matter), the more creepy Bond's trist with Severine and subsequent detachment seem, the more gimmicky the 50th nostalgia Bond nods seem to be, the more pedestrian the theme song is, the more the glamour and style of the classic films seem lacking, the more contrived the "return to basics" direction seems...Sounds like a "Didn't Like It" vote, but I still feel that visually the film really soars in places. The acting was also really solid, but the material they were dealing with was so-so. I may slip further into the "Didn't Like It" vote as time goes on. We'll see, it happened with CR...

A really good short summary of the film's flaws. It has more flaws than have already been mentioned on the forums, particularly regarding Silva's character and scheme, but also others in addition. It's also a dull and unengaging film throughout, it isn't a patch on DR NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, THUNDERBALL, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, or ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. |

Glamour galore. And I'm wondering, how praytell, Craig is "idiotic" in the finale? And what is "creepy" about Bond's involvement with Severine if one hasn't swallowed the feminista, hypersensitive codswallop? I would also add that that Bond is subsequently "detached" from Severine only by force. |

| Bond's 'subsequent detachment' ... hasn't he been 'detached' from pretty much every one of his paramours that got offed other than Tracy and Vesper? As M says in CR shortly after they've seen Solange's body, 'I'd ask you to try to stay emotionally detached but that's not a problem for you, is it Bond?'. And as Bond drily replies, 'No'.
'A waste of good Scotch' was simply following in the series tradition of Bond making a blackly flippant crack in the immediate aftermath of a death, the slight 'twist' being that it was about the Bond Girl this time round. |

| And when Bond made the Scotch remark, he was clearly pretty shaken up. But it wouldn't have exactly done for him to have fallen to pieces like a teary-eyed school girl, now, would it? |

I would also add that that Bond is subsequently "detached" from Severine only by force. The Macau casino scene offers some glamour ( I do love the entrance to this scene), but not much outside of that. The rest is rather bleak. I wouldn't call it galore It's creepy that Bond consumates with a sex slave, after showing what appears to have been some empathy. The Scotch remark shows that he onlybedded her for a lead, rather than any actual feeling, which, true, is Bondlike of him, but makes the fact that he bedded her and who she was as a sex slave even worse. But I can't discredit Bond's taste in women in SF, Severine was certainly hot. It strikes me as idiotic that Bond would bait M to Skyfall without any backup. I know they were in essence fugitives, but still, it doesn't seem like a plan for success. Sure enough, M dies anyway. He doesn't bring sufficient arsenal, but relies on booby traps. He also doesn't take the high road, but instead walks right out onto ice. Also, M and Kinkade use a flashlight (!) to get to the church, not a very covert escape. |

Shanghai is very glamorous. - FG Wells wrote:

Bond was using Severine to meet Silva, and Severine was using Bond to kill Silva. It was a mutual partnership. All the Scotch remark shows is that Bond has learned to mask his true feelings with a callous exterior. Severine puts on a similar how when luring the art dealer in Shanghai. I've said it before, but both Bond and Severine are presented as exploited victims who suffered trauma or abuse when they were children. Bond senses that they're two of a kind when he first sees her, and vice versa with Severine. - FG Wells wrote:

Bond knows that Silva would smell a trap if Bond had the cavalry round the nearest hill. - FG Wells wrote:

a) I'm not sure if a road went from the lodge to the chapel. b) Bond was racing against time to save M. Cutting across the frozen loch was the quickest route. - FG Wells wrote:

In pitch back, what alternative do they have? |

When Bond 'kidnaps' M and they're driving away, M states that too many people are dying because of her. She agrees to be bait and clearly says 'just us.' She didn't want any back up. Bond was also expecting to find an arsenal of weapons at Skyfall Lodge. |
